Thermostats repair in Reading

Thermostat is a small and neglected part of a car. However, it performs an important function by controlling the temperature of the engine coolant valve. Thus, when it stops functioning, the car engine can get overheated and does not work anymore. Thus, once this thermostat begins to wear out, it should be replaced without much delay.

  1. Thermostat • What is the thermostat in a car? • Any car engine that is liquid cooled has a device installed called the thermostat. This sits between the engine and the radiator. What a thermostat does block the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up to the right temperature. When the engine is cold, no coolant flows through the engine as this can cause severe damage. • What is the purpose of a thermostat? • The major purpose of a thermostat is to maintain the engine at the correct temperature. The radiator flows liquid to the entire engine and keeps it cool with the help of recommended coolants.

  2. How does a car thermostat work? • The car thermostat is a valve between the engine and the radiator. When you initially start a cold engine, the thermostat is closed. This allows the coolant around the engine to warm up to the correct temperature. As the coolant temperature rises, the thermostat opens and allows the coolant to flow through to the radiator to be cooled.

  3. Upkeep and potential issues with your thermostat • Upkeep and potential issues with your thermostat • Thermostats are measured for a specific temperature depending on the different types of engines. They are subject to normal wear and each thermostat is specific for each engine type. • A worn-out thermostat could stick in the open position causing the engine to run too cool and not at the correct temperature. This is uneconomical and could decrease the performance and fuel economy of your car.
