  4. What is Title 1? Title 1 is a federal grant that the district receives to provide additional academic intervention services to those students that are at risk of not meeting the standards on the NYS English Language Arts and Math assessments and/or the NYS Regents exams.

  5. Who receives these services? Students that fail to meet the NYS standards on the ELA and/or Math assessments and/or NYS Regents exams are required to receive academic intervention services to help them better meet those standards. (Students that receive a 1 or 2 on either ELA or Math or fail a NYS Regents exam)

  6. What are Academic Intervention Services (AIS)? • Academic intervention services help students who are struggling to achieve learning standards in English Language Arts and mathematics in grades K-12. These services are provided in addition to their regular day core instruction. These services are for students that have not met the “state-designated performance level” on state assessments.

  7. What are the “state-designated performance levels”? • Level 1 means the student has not met the academic standards, has serious academic challenges, and needs extra help. • Level 2 means the student has not met the academic standards, has some academic challenges, and needs extra help. • Level 3 means the student has met the academic standards. • Level 4 means the student exceeds the standards and is moving toward high performance. *All Level 1 and 2 students must receive AIS. Level 1’s receive more intensive and more frequent services than a Level 2 student.

  8. High School Students Any student that fails to meet a score of 65 for general education students or for students with disabilities that fail to meet the score of 55 should receive AIS services in the appropriate content area (Social Studies, Science, English, and Math)

  9. Some Title 1 Requirements • Provide AIS services • Create a Parent Involvement Policy • Create a School-Parent Compact • Meet annually to review PIP • Meet annually to discuss where funds are being spent • Notify parents of AIS, SES, and School Choice
