  1. How to choose bed sheets for your room? Complete guide Don’t you feel great to come home and unwind after a stressful day at work? One of the best ways to relax is to lie down on the bed while watching TV, reading a book, or simply chatting with your partner. However, to enjoy a great downtime you must ensure that your bed sheets and other bedding accessories are of absolute quality. Remember, we spend a considerable amount of time sleeping and so the bedding must be soft and comfy. With so many types of bed sheets available in the market today, how do you make sure that you have got the perfect bed sheets? Here, we have listed a few tips on how to choose the perfect bed sheet for your room so that you can experience the utmost comfort while resting. When choosing sheet set, duvet cover, fitted sheet and flat sheet look at the overall quality of the thread, and how the sheet is finished i.e. weave, to measure quality.

  2. 1. Thread Type Some common thread types woven into bed sheets are, Cotton- This is the most common and most preferred type of thread. Cotton is typically grown in India and is much cheaper than other thread types. However, cotton isn’t quite durable. You can buy cotton sheets as they are budget- friendly but gives you the same feeling as Egyptian cotton. Egyptian cotton- This type is one of the best thread types available and is widely used. Egyptian cotton has long, supple fibers and is quite durable. Bed sheets made from this material are priced higher than normal cotton sheets. Pima or Peruvian cotton-This is another long-staple cotton variety. These produce soft and luxurious fabric that is incredibly strong. They are resistant to tearing, pulling, wrinkling, fraying and fading. Bed sheets made from Pima are quite expensive and not feasible for all. Pima and Egyptian cotton share similar features, however difference lies in from where they came from. Pima grown in united states and Egyptian cotton in hot dry climate of Nile river valley. Both cotton pima and Egyptian is extra-long staple cottons. Polyester- It is an artificial fiber and may not be suitable for everyone. However, when compared to cotton and silk, polyester has a lot of pros attached to it. It absorbs oil and is the preferred material for water, fire- resistant and oil resistant finishes. Sheets made of polyester are cheaper than other materials. Silk, bamboo, and modal- These are all-natural fibers and have become popular only recently. These threads are sometimes blended with cotton. Bamboo sheets are more expensive compared to low-quality cotton sheets. However, if you compare the thread count, the price is almost the same. Linen– Linen comes from flax plants that very expensive to cultivate. Also, linen is difficult to spin and includes many labour-intensive stages of production. That is why linen bed sheets are expensive. However, these sheets have high permeability and heat conductivity properties that make the fabric breathable. It keeps you warm during winter and cool during summer.

  3. Types of the weave of the fabric can determine the smoothness, comfort, thickness, durability, tear strength and even drape of the fabric. 2. Weave Type The weave is the method in which the threads are stitched together to make the sheets. Percale- These are made traditionally with an over-under weaving method and are crisp. Percale sheets are known for keeping you cool at night during summer. They are crisp in the beginning but soften with repeated washings. Sateen- These are made using a method that ensures more threads are over the top of the weave. This gives the sheets a smooth and soft feel. Also, as the thread are tight , sateen sheets are slightly heavier and warmer, making them ideal for all seasons. However, sateen sheets are not for people who sleep hot as they aren’t as breathable as linen or percale. Flannel and Jersey- These sheets can be made from cotton, wool, or synthetic threads. They make soft and cozy bed sheets. While Flannel sheets are woven and brushed to pull up the fibers, Jersey sheets are knit loosely to give them the amazing T-shirt feel. These sheets are not as durable as cotton but can last a bit longer with proper care.  Flannel sheets have a brushed nap on both sides that give the fabric a soft feel against skin. Flannel bedsheets are ideal for cold months. Interestingly, when man-made fibers and cotton are combined in flannel, the sheets have a longer life than the ones made from just cotton. 3. Right Fit The right size and right fit for your bed sheets are very important as you may end up buying something that is either too small or too big for your mattress. If your mattress size is 39”x75”, you should opt for Twin sheets

  4.  For mattress size of 39”x 80, you should consider Twin XL sheets  Full or double sheets for a mattress of size 54"x 75"  Queen bed sheets for a mattress of 60"x80" For mattress size of 76”x80” go in for King bed sheets  California King bed sheets for a mattress size of 72"x 84" (Size Guide Chart) 4. Print & Plain After knowing the basics of the bed sheets, it’s time to look into the aesthetics. How do you choose between prints and plain bed sheets? Plain Prints

  5. If you have printed pillows, blankets and throws then you should choose plain colours bed sheets. Also, if your motif has more colour blocking, you should go in for plain bed sheets. On the other hand, if your room decor is plain, you can buy some good quality printed bed sheets. Buy bed sheets with striking prints to go with rather dull room decor. 5. Patterns Solid Stripe Checks Floral

  6. Patterns such as stripes, solids, checks, floral, etc., must be considered while choosing your bed sheet. Colourful bedsheets add life to your room and make it more vibrant. 3D patterned bedsheets are the latest entry in the market and they take your room to the next level. The prints on 3D sheets look lifelike and enhance the interiors of your room to a great level. 6. Coordinate Your Bedding Coordination is an important aspect that is overlooked by most people. Determine the colors and style you have used in your room for the decor. Make sure that the bedsheet you buy coordinates with the headboard and other accessories of your bedding. You do not have to get it perfectly coordinated. It is fine. However, do note that a coordinated room will reflect your rich taste and at the same time give your room a unified look. 7. Accessorize Your Bedsheets There’s no denying that you must invest in a good bedsheet. However, you can also think of accessorizing it with some other elements especially if you choose a plain or simple bedsheet. Choose decorative pillows, comforters, throws, duvet covers to upgrade your simple bedsheet into a more sophisticated one. You can even accessorize the bedsheet with inexpensive pillow covers to add a pop of color. 8. Number Of Bedsheets Now, this is entirely your call. If you are a person who loves to change bedsheets often, then you can buy as many as you want. However, it will be wise to buy sheets that would fit all the seasons and look lovely throughout the year.

  7. 9. Care For Your Sheets No matter the number or the kind of bedsheets you choose, it’s important to take good care of your sheets if you want them to last long. Fabric softeners put a coating of chemical on your bedsheet that makes them soft but ruins them. So, avoid using softeners as they cause more harm than good. Washing and drying your bedsheets in high heat is a big NO. High heat causes the threads to break easily thereby damaging your sheet. Make sure to use lukewarm water and not dry them on high heat to extend the life of your sheet. Hopefully, this simple guide has helped you understand more about bedsheets. If you think your bedsheet isn't the best or looking to change your collection completely, use the above tips, and get the best! Wondering where to get the best bed sheets online?
