  2. Year 1 Class Names – these birds exemplify our school value of excellence (in singing). By using birds as class names we expect to build children’s knowledge and understanding of nature, so developing their respect for the natural world – important for Ark Byron given our future home within the park.   5. Motto At ARK Byron Academy our motto is Courage to fly : we want all our children to be confident and keen to learn and to take on new challenges, even in the face of adversity.

As a class we decide on our class rules – based upon rights and responsibilities. • We encourage positive behaviour. • Classroom Rules have been agreed – expectations set • Linked to school values and motto • Reward with individual class rewards & certificates of achievement linked to values - weekly assembly • Traffic light system • Exceptional circumstances - being sent out to another class for 10 minutes. • Parents and carers will be kept informed – thank you for your support. • Classroom Promises Classroom

  8. Behaviour and Learning strategies • TTYP • STAR position • No Hands Up (unless for a question) • Signals for e.g. toilet – crossed fingers • Finger on nose for tissue

Home Learning • Wednesday - Maths and Home Learning Journals to be brought in • Friday – Home Journals - extended diary entry, Maths, Phonics and Reading books handed out. • Please bring in Phonics folders, Reading books and Reading records on Fridays so these can be changed. • Support your child reading a book - these are changed weekly • Please initial or add a comment in the reading record book. • High frequency words to go out termly. • Home Learning Diary THERE MAY BE LOSS OF PRIVILEGE /SANCTION FOR REPEAT OFFENDERS.

School Uniform • Boys Byron blazer, Byron red jumper with trim with school logo, white collared shirt, school tie, charcoal grey trousers/shorts, grey socks, black shoes • Girls Byron blazer, Byron red cardigan/jumper with trim with school logo, white collared shirt, school tie, charcoal grey pinafore/trousers, white socks or grey tights, black shoes, Byron red or school colour hair accessories • PE Byron red tracksuit with school logo, blue T shirt with logo, red P.E. Shorts white/black plimsolls, white/black socks. PLEASE ENSURE THIS IS IN SCHOOL AT ALL TIMES! PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING !!!

  11. PE • PE days are Mondays – ARK Active Afternoons • Please make sure that the children’s clothes are labelled. • Children wear PE clothes home on Mondays.

  12. Lunch and Snack • Snacks Fruit is provided by the school but you are more than welcome to bring a healthy snack of fruit or vegetable Due to allergies, please make sure that snacks provided from home are free from nuts. • Water bottles are not necessary as we always have water available in the classroom and playground. • School lunch All children are expected to have school lunch and share in our family dining experience (Fridays only and please arrange this via Miss Callnon our Admin assistant).

  13. Please no party bags. If you want to bring cupcakes at the end of the day to give out in the playground that is fine. • We do a birthday song/celebration at school Birthdays

  15. Parent help • Attendance – holiday in term time will not be authorised. • Punctuality – learning starts immediately so your child loses out and disrupts the rest of the class. • Term Time Absence • Readers
