Unique… • 12 Member Board • Six of the 12 are from the State Board of Ed • State Superintendent of Public Instruction chairs the CareerTech State Board Another Difference… • Oklahoma’s CareerTech education is delivered statewide through: • High school programs • Programs at 29 technology centers/54 campuses, each with their own board. • CareerTech Center Programs • On-site business and industry training

CareerTech name change Our new name was chosen to better reflect the system’s state-of-the-art, high-tech programs and current emphasis on the use of advancing technology and a career-focused, well-rounded education. Reasons for the name change • “Vo-Tech” is a stumbling block for marketing to others outside the system • ¾ of the state & national associations have dropped the word vocational from name • Name aligns with the 54 campuses names

CareerTech serves…. • 72 counties – these technology centers are accessible to 97% of the state’s population • 399 school districts • 1200 programs in local high schools • 193,781 6th-12th grade students • 347,129 adults in 1999 • Nearly 500,000 Oklahoman’s served – one in ten! CareerTech Offices…. State offices are located at 1500 W. 7th Ave in Stillwater, OK.
