  1. Fact SheetDeveloped by Safety Office, SCARNG, Columbia, SC No Smoking Signs • Flammable and combustible liquids are required materials in support of the SCARNG mission and operations. These materials must be managed properly, including having appropriate means of preventing ignition sources from being in the area. • Flammables and combustibles include not only specialized solvents but also motor gasoline and oils. • A very common ignition source results from SCARNG personnel smoking in the area of flammables. • “No Smoking” signs should be posted near all areas containing flammables and combustibles or where these materials may be used, such as motor pools. • “No Smoking Within 50 Feet” signs must be posted at all fueling points and on all four sides of any building where POL materials or other flammable/combustible materials are stored. For more information, consult AG PAM 750-30, Chapter 5 One of the most common safety deficiencies noted at SCARNG facilities is the lack of “No Smoking Within 50 Feet” signs posted on all four sides of POL storage buildings. Don’t let this simple item cause your site to register a deficiency!
