  4. Anterior – in front of, front Posterior – After, behind, toward back

  5. Distal – away, farthest from the reference point Proximal – Near, Closest to reference point

  6. Superior – Above, over Inferior – Below, under

  7. Lateral – away from midline Medial – toward the midline

  8. Cranial – Toward the head Caudal – Toward tailbone

  9. Anatomical Planes – reference to sections of the body

  10. Coronal Plane (Frontal) • Vertical plane running side to side • Divides the anterior from posterior

  11. Sagittal Plane (lateral) • Vertical plane running front to back • Divides right from left
