DMV REQUIREMENTS What you need to get your CALIFORNIA PROVISIONAL PERMIT ·         You must be at least 15 ½, but under 18 years of age ·         Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) online or over the phone for faster service) ·         Complete the application form DL 44 (An original DL 44 form must be submitted. Copies obtained by Xeroxing, faxing, or other methods will not be accepted.) ·         Have your parents’ or guardians’ signatures on the application form DL 44 ·         Give a thumb print ·         Have your picture taken ·         Provide your social security number. ·         Verify your birth date and legal presence ·         “Provide your true full name ·         Submit the proper form(s) for driver education and/or driver training classes (See below for details.) ·         Pay the application fee ·         Pass a vision exam  ** ·         Pass a traffic laws and sign test a.k.a. the DMV Written Exam.

  4. DRIVER LEARNING PERMIT To get a California DMV Driving Permit, teens between the ages of 15½ and 17½ must complete approved driver education.  This course is an internet-based, California DMV-approved driver education program and provides you the certificate you need to take to the DMV! To get started, select register now and you can begin the course right away.

  5. Before you go to the DMV: ·         You must be at least 15 ½, but under 18 years of age ·         Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) for faster service) ·         Complete the application form DL 44 (An original DL 44 form must be submitted. Copies obtained by Xeroxing, faxing, or other methods will not be accepted.) ·         Have your parents’ or guardians’ signatures on the application form DL 44 ·         Provide your social security number. It will be verified with the Social Security Administration while you are in the office. ·         Verify your birth date and legal presence ·         “Provide your true full name if your name no longer matches the name on your birth date legal presence document.” ·         Submit the proper form(s) for driver education and/or driver training classes (See below for details.) ·          Pay the application fee  Have the Application Fee ready.

  6. DRIVER LICENSE FOR TEENS Now that you have successfully PASSED the California DMV Written Exam, you are issued a Learner’s Permit.  (CONGRATULATIONS!)  With this, you are able to drive, under the conditions listed below.  Do some research and find out who the best local driving school is near you and get started.   Take a look at the “Behind the Wheel” Section to search for the nearest school near you in all of California.  If you live in the San Gabriel Valley, we will be able to serve you in your driving needs.  Check out “Our Services” for more information.

  7. What you need to get your PROVISIONAL LICENSE ·            You must be at least 16 years old. ·            You must prove that you have finished both driver education and driver training (DMV form DL 400C and DL 400D). ·            You have had your learner’s permit for at least 6 months. ·            Complete 50 hours of supervised driving practice (10 hours must be completed at night). ·            Pass the behind-the-wheel driving test. If you fail the test, you must wait two weeks so that you can practice before you are tested again. You have three chances to pass the driving test within the time your permit is valid.

  8. Provisional Driver License Restrictions You may drive alone with your provisional license, as long as you are not involved in accidents or have traffic violations. The following restrictions apply: (a)  During the first six months after you are licensed, you must be accompanied by a driver 25 years of age or older if you drive between the hours of midnight and 5:00 am or if you transport people under age 20.(b)  During the second six months after you are licensed, you must be accompanied by a driver 25 years of age or older if you drive between the hours of midnight and 5:00 am. However, you may transport passengers under age 20 without supervision between the hours of 5:00 am and midnight.
