NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY,KARNATAKA Like all National Institute of Technology NITK Surathkal (National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal) also known as NIT Surathkal is a public technical university of national importance. It is formally recognized by the parliamentary act of NIT 2002 therefore it is also a deemed university by virtue of the act. NITK Surathkal from time to time has evolved as per the industry requirements, thereby successfully producing students who have gained fame in their walks of life. The institute was established in 1960 as a Regional EngineeringCollege. Presently there are 31 National institutes of technology in the nation with plans of new ones coming up soon. Therefore, NITK Surathkal is a part of these 31 institutes. Thus most of the syllabus and curriculum are similar and approved by AICTE. Furthermore, the institute is located in a suburban region on national highway 66.MMoreoverthe college has scores of interactive chapters, cultural clubs, and student organizations for overall studentwellbeing.

  5. HISTORY NIT Karnataka is now 62 years old, it was established in the year 1960 and celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2009 and diamond jubilee in 2019. NIT K like all old NIT’s was also a Regional Engineering College the status of becoming an NIT from REC was done in the year 2002 by the Government of India moreover the institute is now a deemed university. Five years after its conceptualization the college started its first Under Graduate program and a year after that its Postgraduate Program. The college has since its foundation has seen many developments from infrastructure to policies. During its formation, the institute was affiliated with Mysore University but soon the affiliation was shifted to Mangalore University. The college was funded both by the Government of India and the International Organisation from time to time to develop its infra. The beach along the college campus was also granted as a private beach to thecollege.

From the infrastructure to the scenic beauty and aesthetics everything plays a role in the ranking of the college. The College secured the 13th best engineering college in India by NIRF in 2020. Moreover, private players like India Today ranked the college 16th in 2020. Thus it can be easily considered the infrastructure and learning experience in the college is by no meansaverage.

  7. INFRASTRUCTURE Infrastructure in a college speaks volumes about the college's proper infrastructure ensures holistic fulfilling education and hassle-free growth and development of students. Therefore NIT K Surathal ensured that the students get optimum satisfaction by providing them with facilities like a career development center along with amenities like Library and Student welfare activities and chapters. The important infrastructure of NIT K is below. Central Library and ComputerCentre Digital excellence in the library is notable, the library is facilitating Web OPAC and Kimbus technology which acts as a search engine to find different e-book, journals, or any other resources easily. The state of the library has a huge database of subscriptions for e-books journals and research papers of both foreign and national capacities. In addition to digitalized resources the library has a huge collection of books as it acquires almost 2758 sq. mt of space and also houses three reading halls which together can accommodate as many as 600 readers at atime. The computer Centre serves all the computing and network services for the campus.

  8. Career DevelopmentCentre The career Development center formerly known as the placement center ensures that students get chances for pre-placement offers and placements. The department works for onboarding companies and recruiters for placements of new graduates. The career development center’s Web app called IRIS makes it easy for the recruiter to easily recruit students. Additionally, the institute has developed an incubator program called STEP where the entrepreneurial spirit in students is nourished and made into fine entrepreneurs the incubator helps students to secure funds and provides office spaces aswell. Health CareCentre The health care facility has dedicated doctors available 24*7. Additionally, emergency ambulances are also available. Students can consult the in-house doctor for any kind of health-related issues for free. Furthermore, students also get medicalinsurance. Hostel &canteen Hostels are categorized into building blocks on the campus more than 4500 students call the Hostels their home. Furthermore, among the 17 Hostels, 12 are for boys and 5 for girls. All the Hostels have WI-FI and Power Backup. In-house laundry and transportation facilities are also available in theHostel. Sports The sports department has two full-time sports and sports assistants and one full-time physical director who not only helps students with sports and physical activity but also organizes sports events. The college has both indoor and outdoor sportingspaces. Students get to play sports like football, cricket, badminton, and volleyball. Likewise indoor sports like chess, table tennis are also available. The campus also houses an international standard swimmingpool.

  9. Courses As many as 80 courses are available at NITK Surathkal, moreover, these courses have AICTE approval. 14 departments offer courses across varied disciplines of study. The institute has around 200 support faculty and 500 other staff that in totality help run the education one way or other at the campus. The most popular course is B.tech in CSE. course fees can range from 1 lac to 5lac depending on the coursechosen. Placements The college saw a 90% placement in 2020 which is quite reputable. The Institute has an alumni network f over 25000 alumni which directly and indirectly contributes to the placement. Moreover, the placement cell also drives reputed recruiters and companies on the campus each year. The highest package offered in the year was 51.5 lac pa. While the average salary offered stood at 10.*lacs pa. an organization like Byjus and L&T InfoTech took part in theplacements.
