Testosterone Steroids in Medicine About Testosterone Testosterone basically is a hormone of class androgens consisting a chain of 19 carbons having a sterane ring structure of 3 hexane rings and 1 pentane ring, mainly produced in the male testes and the female ovaries by the Leydig cells. However smaller amounts of testosterone is also produced by the adrenal glands in both the sexes. Approximately 7mg of testosterone is produced each day by a normal adult while on the other hand a normal female body produces around 1/15th of this amount which is around 0.46mg.The major role of testosterone in a human body is to increase the muscle protein synthesis which results in increase of the muscle mass in the body and reduction in muscle glycogen breakdown while exercising.
