Lozenges contain an ingredient called menthol which mildly numbs the tissues in your throat, thus providing relief from the pain and inflammation. Lozenges and cough drops should only be given to adults since it can be a choking hazard for children.

  2. 2. Warm water and honey Honey is a great natural remedy for cough and sore throats. Additionally, warm liquids of any kind also provide relief for sore throats. Mix a teaspoon of honey in a cup of warm water and drink it up. In addition to providing relief, this will also keep you hydrated, thus letting your body create more fluids and avoiding further irritation in the throat.

  3. 3. Hot water steam or humidifiers Hot water steams are a popular sore throat treatment. Breathing in moist air helps clear your airways and helps sooth your nose and throat tissues. It also helps you breathe easier if you also suffer from blocked nose along with sore throat. If you don’t have access to humidifiers, then heat some water in a pan or fill your sink with hot water, wrap a towel around your head and breathe in the moist air. You’ll feel your blocked airways free up soon after.
