  1. Get Ready For An Adventure Of A Lifetime With Costa Rica Sailfishing Expeditions The famed sailfish, or Istiophorus Platypterus as it is known scientifically, is a trophy fish that is sought after by sports fishing enthusiasts all over the world. It is found in the waters of the great ocean across the globe, and this particular fish species is distinguished by a long, beak-like nose and a wide, blue sail-like dorsal fin. Its ability to reach lengths of up to 3 meters and weights of between 60kg and 100kg make it a favorite among sports fishing aficionados, but few have ever had the exhilarating experience of hooking this monster. Although they favor subtropical waters like those off the coast of Costa Rica in South America, sailfish are pelagic fish that can be found across continental banks. They are also known as predator fish, which means they mostly hunt other fish species including mackerel, sardines, dorado, and anchovies. Sailfish typically hunt in groups and are different to other saltwater fish, in that their meat is dark red in color, and perhaps not preferred so much because of its taste, especially when compared to other predator fish such as Tuna and Marlin. One of the fastest animals in the water, sailfish can reach top speeds of around 109 km per hour and catching one of these enormous fish is probably every sport fisherman's ultimate dream, but sailfish is mostly caught, tagged, and then released back into the water, a technique which is known as tag-and-release, which is also part of many countries’ sustainable fishing policies. Spinning is typically used in sports fishing, such as Costa Rica sailfishing adventures, and many people become addicted to the tug-of-war battle with these ocean giants. It is important to understand that Costa Rica sailfishing is a challenging sport that will push you to your physical and mental limitations. However, this is totally overpowered by the excitement of the catch, which is increased by sailfish's continual attempts to swim away and deeper into the water, and occasionally, they will even jump out of the water into the air. Regardless of subspecies, predator fish are usually highly valued, and their meat is also edible and quite tasty, which is not necessarily the case with sailfish. This could possibly be one of the reasons why so many sport fishermen have adopted the catch-and-release technique when hunting these majestical water creatures. Between the beginning of January and the end of April, the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica experiences the country's largest sailfish bite. Anglers fishing out of Pez Vela Marina (Quepos) or Los Suenos Marina (Jacó) on any given day during this time, can see over 50 sailfish, raise 35 of them, and release 20 or more on a Costa Rica sailfishing holiday. When it comes to hooking big fish, Costa Rica is known as one of the top sportfishing destinations in the world and boasts over 90 world records. However, once Easter has passed, the peak bite shifts north, and your Costa Rica sailfishing adventure will no longer produce the catch you had hoped for, and you might have to return during the peak season.

  2.
