  2. 2nd Amendment, Bill of Rights, US Constitution, 1791 • “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

  3. 1934 National Firearms Act • Calls for special registration for: • Machineguns • Suppressors • Short Barreled Rifles • Short Barreled Shotguns

  4. The “Assault Weapon Ban” • Title XI of the Federal Violent Crime Control Act of 1994 banned the manufacture and import of a certain class of guns defined by Congress as "Assault Weapons." • Expired automatically on September 13th, 2004

RIFLES: Detachable Magazine and two or more of the following: Folding or telescopic stock Pistol grip protruding conspicuously beneath the stock Bayonet mount Flash suppressor or threaded barrel Grenade launcher* HANDGUNS: Detachable Magazine and two or more of the following: Magazine that attaches outside of the pistol grip Threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer** Shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned Manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded Semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm What is an assault weapon?

  8. Texas Gun Law: Transport • No Restrictions on Long Guns • W/o Conceal Carry License (State issued or Reciprocity), no handguns “on or about one’s person” in a vehicle • CCL’s from many states recognized and respected • TEXAS CCL NOT WIDELY ACCEPTED
