  3. Heritage Fund Advisory Groups Arizona State Parks Board William C. Cordasco (Chair)-Flagstaff Arlan Colton-Tucson William C. Scalzo-Phoenix Reese Woodling-Tucson Tracey Westerhausen-Phoenix William C. Porter-Kingman Mark Winkleman-State Land Commissioner Arizona Outdoor Recreation Coordinating Commission (AORCC) AORCC recommends criteria and policies for both the Trails and Local, Regional and State Parks grant programs to ensure the equitable distribution of funds. The Commission also reviews applications and provides funding recommendations to the Arizona State Parks Board. Historic Preservation Advisory Committee (HPAC) HPAC recommends criteria and policies for the Historic Preservation grant program to ensure the equitable distribution of funds. The Committee also reviews applications and provides funding recommendations to the Arizona State Parks Board Arizona State Committee on Trails (ASCOT) ASCOT provides technical advice to AORCC on Trails grant project requests. Natural Areas Program Advisory Committee (NAPAC) NAPAC evaluates and recommends natural areas for potential acquisition, and provides assistance with natural area management plans and interpretation activities

  4. State Parks Acquisition and Development (17%)Up to $1.7 million annually State Parks Acquisition and Development (17%) Supports the acquisition and development of State Park lands, sites, and facilities. Monies are used to enhance natural, cultural, and recreational projects.

  5. State Parks Acquisition and Development (17%) Funded improvements for: - Contact Stations - Restroom/Shower Buildings - Land Acquisition - ADA and ADEQ compliance - Kartchner Development

  6. State Parks Natural Areas Acquisition (17%Up to $1.7 million annually Used to establish a system of natural areas, managed by Arizona State Parks, to protect Arizona’s diverse natural heritage. These areas are acquired for their rare or outstanding natural resource value.

  7. State Parks Natural Areas Acquisition (17%) -Verde River Greenway -Sonoita Creek -San Rafael Ranch -Post Inholding Acquired parcels include:

  8. State Parks Natural Areas Operation and Management (4%)Up to $400,000 annually Provides funding for the operation and management of natural areas administered by Arizona State Parks.

  9. Environmental Education (5%)Up to $500,000 annually Is used to foster an awareness, understanding, and appreciation of maintaining a healthy natural environment and of keeping it in balance with community development.

  10. Environmental Education (5%) Used for State Parks interpretive education programs, including - Junior Ranger Program - Educator Workshops - Nature Walks - Bird and Plant Lists From FY 1993 to FY 1996, a portion of these monies were awarded as competitive grants - 37 projects received $419,186

  11. Trails (5%)Up to $500,000 annually Supports the acquisition and development of nonmotorized trails within the State Trails System. Trails are added to the State Trails System by the Parks Board.

  12. Trails (5%) Primarily expended through a competitive grant program - Grant projects are awarded for trailheads and development/ renovation of trails Since FY 1995, State Parks receives 5% of the monies for trails within State Parks.

  13. Local, Regional and State Parks (35%)Up to $3.5 million annually Supports the acquisition of land for open space, and the acquisition and development of land for outdoor recreation facilities.

  14. Local, Regional and State Parks (35%) Expended as a competitive grant program - Grant projects are awarded for park land acquisition and to develop/renovate ballfields, swimming pools, picnic areas, sports facilities, etc.

  15. Historic Preservation (17%)Up to $1.7million annually Supports historic preservation efforts consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Preservation.

  16. Historic Preservation (17%) Expended primarily as a competitive grant program - Grant projects are awarded for historic resource acquisition and protection State Parks also receives these monies for - Stabilization of State Park historic resources - Special projects that meet the goals of the Historic Preservation Plan
