  1. CYSTOSCOPY BY DR. GIRISH NELIVIGI Cystoscopy is a test in which an endoscope is inserted through the urine passage in the penis. This is done to check for any abnormality in the urethra, prostate, bladder neck and the urinary bladder. HOW IS IT DONE? This is done either under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. It can be done in Out Patient setting if done under local anesthesia and in Operation Room setting if done under general anesthesia. WHY IS CYSTOSCOPY DONE? It is done to evaluate the following conditions: Hematuria or blood in urine Obstructive urinary symptoms Irritative urinary symptoms Recurrent urinary infections Surveillance of cancers of bladder or urethra Enlarged prostate Follow-up in stricture urethra Ureteric problems like reflux or obstruction WHAT ARE THE COMPLICATIONS OF CYSTOSCOPY?
