  2. What is Gum infection? Gum infection is also known as periodontal disease. It is a bacterial infection affecting the gums and sometimes the bone that surrounds a tooth. Gum infection can influence one tooth or many teeth, and they vary from gum irritation to critical infection. It is important to give special attention to your gums because if you’re not taking care of your gums, you’re not taking care of your mouth.
