  3. On October 16, 1997, Naomi Osaka was born in Osaka City, Osaka, Japan. Tamaki Osaka & Leonard Maxime Francois met in the 1990s in Sapporo, Japan. When Tamaki’s family found out she was dating a Haitian man, they thought it was a shame, but she and Francois still got married. The couple went to the city of Osaka, where Osaka was conceived a year and a half after her more seasoned sister Mari. To make things easier for them in Japan, the girls were given their mother’s last name. Early Life:

  4. On the courts, Naomi Osaka and Mari became friends, but Osaka has been driven for years to beat Mari in a match. Mari was a good player at first, but injuries slowed her down. The Japanese side of Osaka’s family was at first doubtful that her tennis career would be successful, but they changed their minds as she became successful. Tennis Career Would Be Successful:

  5. Naomi Osaka, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall, skipped junior tournaments and went straight to pro satellite tours, just like Venus and Serena did. In 2016, the Women’s Tennis Association chose her as “Newcomer of the Year.” She turned pro in 2013. In March 2018, she won her first match on the WTA tour at Indian Wells, California. Then, in September 2018, Osaka won the U.S. Open, making her the first player from Japan to win a Grand Slam. Tennis Career:

  6. In Japan, the way she talks is called Naomi-bushi, which was nominated for a buzzword of the year award in 2018. The fact that Osaka always bows during her matches is also seen as something very Japanese. Nominated for a Buzzword of the Year Award:

  7. Osaka is now one of the most influential people in professional tennis. She dropped out of the Cincinnati Open in 2020 to bring attention to the shooting of Jacob Blake. For the 2020 U.S. Open, Osaka wore masks with the names of Breonna Taylor, Ahmad Arbery, Trayvon Martin, and George Floyd, who were all African Americans who were hurt by police. Activism:
