  1. ‘cane and ‘quake safer birdcage dome homes built on a raised rock mesa base Birdcage Dome On A Mesa Birdcage Dome On A Mesa So Many Possibilities By Wil Fidroeff So Many Possibilities By Wil Fidroeff • Chicken wire stretched over an interwoven hemispherical matrix of painted steel rebar forms a dome home. • Between the chicken wire and the rebar are colorful overlapping waterproof tarps. • Chicken wire stretched over an interwoven hemispherical matrix of painted steel rebar forms a dome home. • Between the chicken wire and the rebar are colorful overlapping waterproof tarps. How is the dome covered? Hand applied concrete plaster.

  2. ‘cane & ‘quake safer birdcage dome housing built on a rock & block raised mesa base A 23ft., 7meter Dome Home415sq.ft. or 38.6 square meters • Draw a circle on the ground 11’-6” or 3.5m in radius. If you don’t have 48 concrete blocks you can do this right on the ground: • Put 16 steel rebar rods about 3ft. or 1 meter into the ground forming a circle. The vertical rods should be positioned so that parallel sets of two rods each will support the both sides of the doors and windows. Now if you are concerned about mud and erosion at the perimeter of the dome: First make a mesa base larger than the dome so rainwater can properly drain at the perimeter.

  3. 8 interwoven steel rebar archesform dome and support roof • Arches are tilted up into place and lashed to vertical rebar rods. • Install complete base double ring of rebar then secure door. • Install horizontal ring of rebar level with top of doorway. Complete structure by stretching a layer of chicken wire over the dome, then tarps, & more wire.

  4. You can use taut chicken wire & tarps or expanded metal lath to create a steel reinforced concrete shell inside and outside the dome made with rebar arches.

  5. There are many locationpossibilities for placement of doors and windows. If you want to make 4 sleeping lofts in one dome the dome can be divided into 4 rooms each with a door and a window. Then you would need 4 doors and 4 windows. A dome set up like this would have living space on the ground floor with room for a double bed or two single beds per loft. The partition walls would be secured at the center and at the outside perimeter. The loft platform could be connected to the walls and suspended from the dome ceiling and roof.
