EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN • Enroll in and encourage your students to enroll in AlertU, Chabot College’s mass notification system • Text “CHABOT” to 253788 (ALERTU) and reply Y or sign up online at:  www.alertu.org/Chabot • Report Emergencies • Call Campus Safety and Security: 723-6666 • Call 911 • Emergency View charts in classrooms/hallways • Review Evacuation procedures w/staff & students • Review Campus Lock down procedures • Review College’s Emergency Operations Plan CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

REPORTING EMERGENCIES • CALL Campus Safety and Security: 510-723-6666 • CALL 9-1-1 • BE CALM and identify yourself. • IDENTIFY YOUR LOCATION, Identify the location of the incident and describe as clearly as possible the nature of the problem (crime, fire, disaster, medical emergency) • REMAIN ON THE LINE, The dispatcher will be sending proper emergency personnel to the scene.  (Police Officer – Ambulance – Fire Department).  The dispatcher will then advise you when all of the proper information has been obtained.  Do no hang up; let the dispatcher hang up first CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

FIRE PROTECTION AND PREVENTION PLAN • Fire Alarm System • Know locations of pull stations, activate the alarm when you see a fire/smoke • Know your evacuation assembly areas near building (closest parking lot) • When you hear the fire alarm sounding gather your belongings and evacuate do not hesitate CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

FIRE AND SMOKE • CALL Campus Safety and Security:  510-723-6666 • When you smell smoke or if you see smoke coming from the ventilation system or if a fire alarm sounds. • Leave the room and close the doors to offices. • Sound the building’s evacuation alarm (manual pull stations) • Evacuate the building, go to assembly areas (parking lots, 150 feet away from the buildings) • Notify police or firefighters if you believe someone may be trapped inside the building CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

  9. FIRE AND SMOKE continued • If you know how to use a portable fire extinguisher, you may choose to extinguish small fires. • Remember PASS • PULL PIN • AIM NOZZLE AT THE BASE • SQUEEZE HANDLE • SWEEP FROM SIDE TO SIDE CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

  10. EVACUATION PROCEDURES • Be aware of all the marked exits from your area and building. Know two paths out of buildings. • When the building evacuation alarm is sounded or when you are ordered to leave by your supervisor/manager or an administrator, walk quickly to the nearest marked exit and ask others to do the same. • Assist/direct people with physical disabilities to the exits • Outside, proceed to a clear area that is at least 150 feet away from the buildings Keep driveways to the building clear for emergency vehicles. EVACUATION PROCEDURES continued • To the best of your ability, and without re-entering the building, assist administrators in their attempt to determine that everyone has evacuated safely. • Take roll of employees/students • If an Incident Command Post or an Emergency Operations Center may be set up near the emergency site. Keep clear of the incident command post/EOC unless you have important information to report. • DO NOT RETURN TO A BUILDING UNTIL YOU ARE TOLD TO DO SO ORUNTIL THE ‘ALL CLEAR’ HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

  12. SHELTER-IN-PLACE/LOCK DOWN In some emergency situations it is safer to seek shelter than it is to evacuate. Sheltering-in-place is often the appropriate choice for dynamic, threatening, and quickly changing conditions as a result of criminal activity or a hazardous materials incident. SHELTER-IN-PLACE PROCEDURES • Remain Calm • Avoid becoming directly involved in the situation • Quickly assess the situation, identify hazards • If you are outdoors, immediately move indoors. • CALL Campus Safety and Security: 510-723-6666 • Close and lock (or barricade) all doors and windows. • Move everyone as far from potential threat areas as possible. • Take cover behind heavy furnishings or structures. SHELTER-IN-PLACE PROCEDURES • Do not open doors unless instructed to do so by recognized staff or positively identified public safety personnel. • Alert others in the building • If possible shut ventilation • Seal large gaps in doors and windows with clothes, plastic etc… • Listen to a portable radio for news (KCBS 740AM) and Emergency Alert System updates. Follow all instructions provided by public safety personnel. • Remain sheltered until public safety personnel have determined that it is safe to leave. CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

EARTHQUAKE • Before an Earthquake: Be Preparedwith a family emergency plan and emergency supplies (3 days of food and water), flashlight w/batteries etc. http://www.ci.livermore.ca.us/LPFD/pdfs/family_preparedness_guide.pdf • During an Earthquake Seek Cover; If you are indoors, stay there-get under a desk or table away from glass and heavy objects. If you are outdoors, move to an open area away from falling hazards, Avoid utility lines – they may be energized. Be ready for more shaking! • After the Quake Stay calm and evaluate your surroundings. Evacuate as necessary. Move to an evacuation assembly area. Regroup and take roll. Give first aid based upon your level of training. Do not re-enter damaged buildings. CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

HAZARD COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM • Know what chemicals are used and stored in your work area. • i.e. Printer toner • Know proper handling and waste removal procedures. • Know where MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for the chemicals that are located in your area • Report any chemical spills/leaks to Campus Safety 723-6666 and your supervisor CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT

ERGONOMICS • Read OSHA Ergonomic handout: http://www.dir.ca.gov/dosh/dosh_publications/ComputerErgo.pdf • Work conditions can contribute to MSD’s (musculoskeletal disorders) • Keying for long periods of time w/o breaks • Using force when striking the keyboard • Working with awkward neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, or back postures • Remaining in the same position for a long time • Continuous pressure against the wrist rest, work surface edge or armrest CHABOT-LAS POSITAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
