  1. The  VAFundingFee 01 02 03 Veterans who use the VA Loan benefit are required to pay the funding fee. Since the VA Loan does not require a down payment or monthly mortgage insurance, this fee helps reduce the loan's cost to taxpayers. The funding fee is calculated as a percentage of the total loan amount and depends on factors such as the type of loan, military category, etc. 04 05 The VA funding fee must be paid at the time of closing. The funding fee may be financed or paid through the borrower's account. 06 07 People who use the VA Loan a second time and don't make a down payment may have to pay higher funding fees. Reservists and National Guard members pay a higher funding fee percentage. 08 You are not required to pay a VA funding fee if: You receive a VA compensation for a service-connected disability.
