  1. Can you trust sterile compounding? Sterile compounding has been making the news rounds after a surprise investigation from the FDA on several sterile compounding pharmacies. After a meningitis outbreak in October of 2012 that was traced back to a sterile compounding lab, the FDA has been on high alert. The FDA is keeping an eye on the pharmacies that pose the greatest risk factor, those would be the ones that compound sterile injectables. Several problems were found that ranged from uncleaned sterile rooms to the pharmacist using improper techniques when compounding. Why do you need sterile compounding? The reason for sterile compounding is that there are some medications that have to have the cleanest possible product because they are going straight into the human body. Sterile compounding pharmacies are able to compound many different types of medicines such as ophthalmic drops, ointments, sprays, injections and pre-op solutions. All sterile compounding is done in clean rooms.

  2. Clean rooms have very strict guidelines that one must follow to keep them clean and operational. The clean rooms normally are isolated from the rest of the pharmacy to avoid any contamination possible. The pharmacist is tasked with wiping down everything with alcohol pads all while wearing knee length jackets so that they are covered as much as possible. The sterile compounding room that is in use at Fusion RX Compounding has an IOS 7 prep area and ISO 5 hood. The pharmacist have been trained in all the proper procedures and follow. Sterile compounding pharmacies, such as Fusion RX Compounding, are in high demand by hospitals because of the convenience that its causes for them by not having to create a clean room and having to maintain it. Fusion RX Compounding Pharmacy is a great example of how sterile compounding should be done. With each of the guidelines closely followed they minimize any chance of any contamination along with giving patients the peace of mind that what is going into their bodies is sterile.
