  4. Ruleregulates a serious student misbehavior. If broken, must be a consequence EVERY time! Procedure is a way that you expect something to be done. This is done the same way, EVERY time! Rules vs. Procedures

  5. How to Establish Rules and Procedures • Decide the rules • Determine the consequences • Discuss with students rules and consequences • Word the rule – “We agree…” • Post rules and consequences • Send parents copy of rules/consequences • Be Consistent!!!

  6. If students don’t… Announce to student that he/she chose to break a rule, he/she must now face consequence. Be consistent Make sure rules are posted! DON’T SCREAM – IT IS NEVER APPROPRIATE TO SCREAM AT A STUDENT! Prevention: Bell to Bell Teaching! If you give students nothing to do, they will find something to do every time! DISCIPLINE PROACTIVELY: Practice fire prevention not fire distinguishing. Do’s and Don’ts
