  3. Aim of project • The main aim of the project is to implement an interfacing system to remotely control electrical appliances using the GSM network. • Using the system one can remotely switch on or off electrical machine using mobile phone.

History of the GSM • Mobile cellular systems introduced for commercial use in the 1980s. • In the beginnings of cellular systems, each country developed its own system, and so    - The equipment was limited to operate only within the boundaries of each country. - The market was also limited. To overcome these limitations, the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) became in 1982.

  8. Specifications of GSM • Spectrum efficiency & voice quality. • International roaming. • Low mobile and base stations costs. • Compatibility with other systems (ISDN / PSTN ..etc.). • Ability to support new value added services.

  9. GSM Radio Interface Two frequency bands, of 25 Mhz for the GSM system: • The band 890-915 Mhz for the uplink • The band 935-960 Mhz for the downlink

  12. GSM System Blocks • Mobile Station ( MS ). • Base Station Subsystem ( BSS ). • Network Switching Subsystem ( NSS ). • Operation and Maintenance Subsystem ( OMS ).

  13. The Mobile Station (MS) + The Mobile Equipment is said to be a Mobile Station if the Subscriber Identity Module ( SIM Card ) is added to it. The SIM Card contains: A processor and a memory. that stores: - The international mobile subscriber Identity IMSI. - The Authentication and ciphering keys.

Achievements Through out the course work of the project I have done the following: • I have studied different related subject to the project which enhances my knowledge. • My aimed was to implement it completely, but I have tested every suction, individually either by hardware implementation, or simulation by using accusim software.

Conclusion • GSM network provide mobile phone system that allows roaming of users through the world , with no distance limitation, users can control their installation from over the world via the mobile telephone. • The propose of this system is very useful and it has different applications which make human life easier. • Finally, my benefit of the project is grate and I meet the aims of the project.
