  2. Optical transceiver modules transport waves of information through optical fibers finer than human hair. Modules transport and receive optical signals. Each of these form factors are developed under the Multi-Source Agreement.

  3. Particular standards must be met in their building. Optical transceivers are typically grouped by transport speeds. Each supports rates from 1Gbps to 10Gbps. 1Gbps form factors are typically known as SFP's and GBIC modules.

  9. GBIC is an abbreviation for giga-bit interface converter. It mainly works to transform signals from the Ethernet network to the fiber optic network. This module connects networks to the fiber optic patch cords.
