  2. What is BRICS? BRICS is the acronym for an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The grouping was originally known as "BRIC" before the inclusion of South Africa in 2010.

BRICS SUMMIT • The BRIC Countries met for their first official summit on 16 June 2009, in Yekaterinburg, Russia. • Discussed the current global financial Crisis, global development, and further strengthening of the BRICS group. • Issued a joint statement on global food security, calling for "action by all governments and the relevant international agencies"

  4. What Are The BRIC Countries And Why Are They Important? Without these four countries, global growth would be below 4%. Ten years ago, Goldman Sachs economist Jim O'Neill used the acronym BRIC to describe the big emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China in a report called “Building Better Economic BRICs”

BRICS Summit 2016: India To Mount Diplomatic Offensive Against Pakistan Seeking to further isolate Pakistan on terror, India will mount a major diplomatic offensive against it and push for stepped up cooperation, including support for a comprehensive global convention to tackle the menace. When it hosts the annual summit of BRICS, a 5-nation grouping representing nearly half of the world's population. The summit, being attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and leaders of Brazil and South Africa, is likely to deliberate on a range of key issues including confronting threat of terror and boosting trade and investment. BRICS: Terrorism, Economic Cooperation To Dominate Agenda • Terrorism will be on the agenda and India is likely to pitch for united fight against the international threat. • Besides, strengthening economic cooperation, increasing people to people contact and bolstering intra BRICS trade will also figure during the Summit.

India seeks support against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism The summit will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders from Brazil and South Africa. India will push for an increase in cooperation between the countries and would urge for support for a comprehensive global convention to fight the terrorist organizations. PM Modi is also expected to voice his concerns over the recent joint military exercises between Russia and Pakistan at the summit. The PM is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Russia and China. Indo-China relationship has also hit a rough patch ever since China repeatedly blocked China also blocked India's application to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) until a consensus was reached.
