POST HIGH SCHOOL OPTIONS • 2-Year College • Earn an Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate • Complete requirements to transfer to a 4-year college • 4-Year College • Earn a Bachelor’s Degree • Trade School • Learn a specialized skill like cosmetology, electrician, mechanic • Military • Talk with recruiters and decide which branch is right for you • Work • Get a job that requires a high school diploma

  3. OVERVIEW OF COLLEGE SYSTEMS

  4. COMMUNITY COLLEGE • 2-3 years to be ready to transfer • Complete general education requirements for low cost • After transfer, usually 2 more years to complete Bachelor’s degree • 2 years CC + 2 years college/university = 4 years

  5. PUBLIC CALIFORNIA COLLEGES University of California (UC) California State University (CSU) • Students must complete A-G requirements to be eligible for UCs and CSUs • 3.0 minimum GPA for UC • Eligibility index of GPA + test scores for CSU

OUT OF STATE PUBLIC COLLEGES • Requirements vary • A-G requirements are a good guideline • Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) • Offers reduced tuition of 150% of resident rate • May have higher GPA requirements to give tuition discount • Great option for CA students as colleges become more competitive!

PRIVATE COLLEGES • Beyond Harvard and Stanford • 76 private colleges in California along • Academics, student life, school size, and other factors vary widely among private colleges • Do your research! • Sticker Shock • Private schools can be expensive • May have more flexibility to provide financial aid
