  1. Dietary Fiber: why is it important? Dietary Fiber: why is it important? Including more fiber in the diet is considered good for health. But why is fiber so good for your health? Present in plenty in a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes, dietary fiber is best recognized for its ability to prevent or relive constipation. Additionally, foods rich in fiber is also known to provide several health benefits including a healthy weight management, reduced risk of diabetes, heart diseases, and some types of cancer as well. Therefore, nutritionists always suggest taking a high fiber diet. Dietary fiber Also called roughage or bulk, dietary fiber includes foods that body can’t absorb or digest as such. Components such as fats, proteins and carbohydrates break down in the body during the digestion process, but fiber isn’t digested. It usually passes almost intact through the stomach, small intestine, and colon. Two types of fiber Both play an important role in a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, including them in your diet is essential. Soluble fiber These fibers can dissolve in water, forming a gel-like substance in the digestive system. Soluble fibers are known to help reduce cholesterol levels while also helping to regulate blood sugar levels. Insoluble fibers Like their name, these do not dissolve in water. Usually, they add bulk to the stool thus helping to relieve constipation. How eating more fiber helps?

  2. Improved heart health Several studies have backed clams that eating dietary fiber impacts heart health. Including healthy fiber-rich food in diet can even protect against cardiovascular diseases and reduce blood pressure. Experts say that heart protective abilities could be because of reduced cholesterol levels. As fiber can reduce total cholesterol level and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (which is a major risk factor for heart diseases), fiber helps maintaining good heart health. Gut health There’s no denying that fiber helps improve gut health. Eating an adequate amount of fiber can prevent and relieve constipation. It helps move the waste smoothly through the body by maintaining regular bowl movement. Additionally, it also helps maintain good bacteria in the gut to aid in digestion. Weight management Healthy weight management always remains an issue with many people. By incorporating high fiber diet and making a few lifestyle changes, they can easily feel a little lighter. High fiber foods make a person feel fuller for longer and may help them adhere to a healthy diet. If you want to stay healthy, following a diet rich in dietary fiber is essential.
