    competence describes what individuals know or are able to do in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes at a particular point in time; capability describes the extent to which an individual can apply, adapt and synthesise new knowledge from experience and continue to improve his or her performance

    Slide 6:How can a framework be used?

    for self-assessment; as a means of planning personal development; as a means of planning team development; as a guide to developing education and training; as a guide to developing work-based learning. It is anticipated that those using the framework for professional development purposes would be supported and guided by an experienced mentor

    Slide 7:Developing a Qualification for Healthcare Chaplaincy

    Project group remit: To commission a single or collaborative group of Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) who will thereafter work on a chaplaincy qualification

    Slide 8:Building on the work of Chaplaincy Academic and Accreditation Board

    Chaplaincy is a graduate profession Candidates should be able to fulfil entry requirements for post graduate study A professional register should contain the names of individuals who meet the standards required to practice stating the level at which the chaplain is qualified Chaplaincy is working towards registration as an Associated Health Profession A recognised educational base and career structure will be required for registration With the professional organisations NES is taking the lead to develop and initiate a qualification for healthcare chaplaincy in Scotland

    Framework adapted and agreed using other documents Ongoing consultation with project group Consultation with Lead Chaplains throughout UK including Scotland Project consultants preparing draft competencies for comment using the following frameworks Standards for NHSScotland Chaplaincy Services Skills for Health Competencies CAAB mapping of NHS Knowledge Skills Framework Consulting with University faculties and departments Draft competencies to be available in November 2007
