Advantages of Using Appropriate Technology in Literacy Instruction Backed by Research • Positive results of using software with text-to-speech capabilities in phonemic awareness and phonics instruction • Use of word processors produces better writing, more editing and revising • Multimedia resources such as electronic books enhance comprehension and improve retention with visual, audio and hypertext elements • Provides more resources for the teacher, especially for those students who need additional practice • Provides immediate feedback • Higher motivation for writing and editing if published on the web • Many software programs track students’ progress over time
