Major City Initiatives • Make a Splash-Atlanta • Developed a certified aquatic staff of 14 – eight instructors & six lifeguards; select staff members are certified as instructor trainers, certified pool operators , and aquatic fitness instructors • Over 2,500 children have participated in learn-to-swim classes since June 2007 • All 600 participants this past school year achieved Level 1; over 300 students have achieved level 2 or higher • 1200 participants are expected in 2008 program

Major City Initiatives • Make a Splash-Houston • Three partners each offering a different avenue to address the disproportionate rate of drowning in the Houston area: • City of Houston Parks & Recreation Dept (HPARD) • Harris County Aquatic Program (HCAP) • YMCA of Greater Houston • The three programs combined are projected to touch close to 1,000 youngsters during the summer of 2008.

  21. Local Partner Programs Learn-to-swim providers on the next slide have applied to become Make a Splash Local Partners. Each meet the requirements for swimmer/teacher ratio, number of lessons offered, skill progression, and how teachers are trained. Once a Local Partner is approved, they receive a Make a Splash banner, materials, and equipment to help promote their learn to swim program. Speedo VIK program helps enhance our support of these learn-to-swim providers.

  25. Savannah, GA In Savannah, Georgia and Lafayette, Colorado, 240 children participated in a water safety day. Our partnership was with Starfish Aquatics and the National Recreation and Park Association.

  33. Overview Harlem Week–”Harlem Week” is one of America’s largest cultural celebrations. It consists of various activities and events that celebrate a rich cultural diversity in America. Held in historic Harlem, Harlem Week attracts millions of individuals to the worlds most famous neighborhoods for food, information and activities. Goal of the Make a Splash appearance at Harlem Week – Generate interest about the Make a Splash program among at risk groups. Solidify existing relationships with program partners (Red Cross, Trident Swimming, NYC Parks, Swim Strong) and potential program funders (Sovereign Bank, Adecco, Virtcom Int.)

  36. History • Foundation formed in 2004 • Incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit • Governed by an independent Board of Directors • Foundation staff headquartered at USA Swimming offices in Colorado Springs • USA Swimming staff provides support to administer programs and services

  37. Mission Statement The mission of the USA Swimming Foundation is to create and enhance ongoing sources of revenue, and support and add value to the activities, programs, services and brand of USA Swimming in a manner consistent with its operating principles and strategic drivers.

  38. 5-Year Vision By 2012 the Foundation will be: • Recognized as the national leadership organization for promoting water safety and learn-to-swim programs for America’s increasingly diverse youth population. • Administering a wide range of national promotional campaigns and supporting a national network of learn-to-swim programs. • Developing other programs and services to support USA Swimming in its mission.
