GRAINS REFINED GRAINS Have been milled – germ and bran removed along with fiber, iron, and B vitamins EXAMPLES • White flour • Degermed cornmeal • White bread • White rice WHOLE GRAINS contain the entire grain kernel – bran, germ, endosperm EXAMPLES • Whole wheat flour • Cracked wheat • Oatmeal • Brown rice • Whole cornmeal

  4. VEGETABLES • All vegetables fall into this group • 100% vegetable juice is fine • Dark Green Vegetables • Orange Vegetables • Dry Beans and Peas • Starchy Vegetables • Other Vegetables

  5. FRUITS • Examples of Fruits • Apples • Bananas • Berries • Melons • Citrus • All fruits fall under this categories • 100% fruit juice is great

  6. MILK/DAIRY • Any fluid milk is included • Many foods made from milk that still contain calcium • Milks • Yogurts • Ice Creams • Cheeses
