  1. MIT School of Distance Education Agile Project Management

  2. What is Agile Project Management ? o Agile project management (APM) is a dynamic and collaborative method for organizing and overseeing project activities. Instead of following a rigid plan, APM divides the project into smaller, manageable cycles known as sprints or iterations. o This approach is particularly prevalent in software development, allowing teams to work efficiently and cooperatively. One of the key strengths of agile project management lies in its adaptability to evolving requirements during the development phase. o By breaking the project into iterative cycles, teams can swiftly respond to feedback and incorporate changes in each sprint, ensuring a more responsive and iterative product development process.

  3. Principles of Agile project management: 1)Iterative Approach: Agile breaks down the project into small, iterative cycles or sprints. A sprint typically spans a few weeks and concludes with a product increment ready for potential shipment. 2)Collaborative and Cross-functional Teams: Agile promotes close collaboration among team members, including developers, testers, and stakeholders. Cross-functional teams work together throughout the project, fostering communication and shared responsibility. 3)Adaptability to Change: Agile embraces changing requirements, even late in the development process. The iterative nature allows teams to respond quickly to feedback and adjust priorities based on evolving customer or stakeholder needs.

  4. 5 main phases in Agile Project Management : 1) Envisioning: In this initial phase, the project team, along with stakeholders, defines the project vision and establishes high-level goals and objectives. 2) Initiating: During the initiating phase, the team delves deeper into project planning. This involves defining scope, identifying initial user stories or features, and creating a product backlog. 3) Iterative Development and Delivery: This phase is the heart of Agile project management and consists of a series of iterative cycles or sprints. The team works on small increments of the project during each sprint, with a focus on delivering functional and potentially shippable software. 4) Monitoring and Controlling: Throughout the entire project, there is a continuous monitoring and controlling process. This involves tracking progress against the project plan, managing risks, and adjusting priorities as needed. 5) Closing: The closing phase involves finalizing the project and delivering the completed product. This includes conducting a final review, obtaining feedback from stakeholders, and ensuring that all project requirements have been met.
