General facts: To talk about general facts present simple tense is used. • To make present simple tense we need: • The base verb e.g have , share ,go ,take , last etc. • The helping verbs -do/does.
Examples: • Children take exams at 16.(affirmative sentence) • Children don’t take exams at 16.(negative sentence) • Do children take exams at 16?(yes/no question) • When do children take exams?(information question)
Examples: • Secondary school lasts for six years.(affirmative sentence) • Secondary school doesn’t last for six years.(negative sentence) • Does secondary school last for six years?(yes/no question) • How long does secondary school last?(information question)
Personal experience: To talk about personal experience past simple tense can be used. • To make past simple tense we need: • Verb 2 .This verb can be regular or irregular. Regular verbs end in –ed e.g started , liked , stayed etc. Irregular verbs that don’t end in –ed but have a different spelling e.g took , left , went etc. • The helping verb - did.
Examples: • I started primary school at five.(affirmative sentence) • I didn’t start primary school at five.(negative sentence) • Did you start primary school at five?(yes/no question) • When did you start primary school?(information question)
Examples: • I took GCSEs and A-levels.(affirmative sentence) • I didn’t take GCSEs and A-levels.(negative sentence) • Did you take GCSEs and A-levels?(yes/no question) • What exams did you take ?(information question)
