  1. Adulterate - Verb Many adults believe that the MTV culture adulterates teenagers’ minds. Trick: Adults are more corrupt than kids.

  2. Ambidextrous – Adj. Look! He can pitch with both hands! He’s ambidextrous! Trick: Ambivalent – more than 1.

  3. Augment – Verb. This family has probably had to augment the size of their house several times.

  4. Bereft – Adj. The lonely woman was bereft of her husband and of all happiness. Trick: Theft – Rhyme.

  5. Deploy – Verb. Troubled teens are often deployed to boot camps to help them straighten out their lives. Trick – De: Release Ploy: Plan

  6. Dour – Adj. Ebeniezer Scrooge is a famously dour character. Trick: Sour – Rhyme.

  7. Fortitude - Noun Civil Rights activists are remembered and admired for their fortitude. Trick: Strong like a fort

  8. Gape - Verb The old man gaped at the robbery. Trick: Shock at an ape…would you gape?

  9. Gibe: Verb or Noun The opposing team gibed (verb) at the batter in hopes to make him lose focus. OR The opposing team spewed gibes (noun) at the batter.

  10. Guise - noun Little Johnny won the contest with his clever guise on Halloween. Trick: Disguise

  11. Insidious – adj. His brother insidiously planned to get him caught sneaking cookies.

  12. Intimation - Noun The way Julia looked at Hugh gave him an intimation of her feelings for him. Intimation - Indication

  13. Opulent – Adj. The Palace of Versailles is an elaborate display of opulence. Trick: Opal - jewel

  14. Pliable – adj. All types of dancers must have pliable bodies to move freely and gracefully. Trick: Ply Apart

  15. Reiterate Teachers sometimes feel like broken records after reiterating everything they say all day long. Re: Again

  16. Stolid – Adj. Ben Stein has a very stolid personality, rarely changing his display of emotions. Stolid: Cold

  17. Tentative: Adj. People’s plans for the future are always tentative to change.

  18. Unkempt – Adj. Many teenagers and college kids live in an unkempt fashion. Unkempt: Unkept

  20. Warily – Adv. The hikers proceeded warily into the dark forest.
