MOTIVATION We draw our motivation for this ministry of intercessory prayer and spiritual growth from the fine biblical example of Epaphras of whom Paul spoke with great appreciation:

MOTIVATION “Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured” Colossians 4:12.

    MOTIVATION Prayer – 10 470 Pray – 5 886 Prayers – 3 301 Prayed – 2 138 Prayerful, Prayerfully, Prayerfulness Total = 20 799

    MOTIVATION

MOTIVATION “The intercessory prayer of Christ for His disciples, as recorded in the seventeenth chapter of John, contains important lessons for every Christian. This prayer is written for our instruction.

MOTIVATION ‘Neither pray I for these alone,’ Christ says, ‘but for them also which shall believe on me through their word.’ Thank the Lord! Every one who believes in Jesus Christ is embraced in this petition.” BTS, February 1, 1906 par. 1.

MOTIVATION “But at every one of our little meetings I continued to exhort and pray for each one separately, until every one had yielded to Jesus, acknowledging the merits of His pardoning love. Every one was converted to God.” 1 T, p. 33.4.

MOTIVATION “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16, NIV. “It is a part of God's plan to grant us, in answer to the prayer of faith, that which He would not bestow did we not thus ask”. Great Controversy, p. 525.

MOTIVATION “Prayer and effort, effort and prayer, will be the business of your life. You must pray as though the efficiency and praise were all due to God, and labor as though duty were all your own.

MOTIVATION If you want power you may have it, as it is awaiting your draft upon it. Only believe in God, take Him at His word, act by faith, and blessings will come.” Counsels on Health, p. 367.

MOTIVATION “No man is safe for a day or an hour without prayer”. Great Controversy, p. 530. “The darkness of the evil one encloses those who neglect to pray”. Steps to Christ, p. 94.

MOTIVATION “Only the work accomplished with much prayer, and sanctified by the merit of Christ, will in the end prove to have been efficient for good”. DA, p. 362.

MOTIVATION “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35.

GOAL The Epaphras Ministry goal during this quinquennium is to ensure that 95% of our members and employees are involved in prayer and Bible study—personally, in the family and within the church. The following is the annual breakdown:

    GOAL 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 60% 70% 80% 90% 95%

ACTION PLANS 1. Designate a responsible person to coordinate this initiative at every level: ensure regular reports on participation levels, special projects, etc; promote the ministry; and organize the distribution of any literature associated with it.

ACTION PLANS 2. Create Epaphras Ministry subcommittees to oversee the plans and the activities of this initiative at every level of the church in the SID. 3. Train designated coordinators.

ACTION PLANS Encourage all Bible class teachers to intensify their teaching about intercessory prayer in order to mould more prayer warriors.

ACTION PLANS 4. Recommend that every departmental meeting begin with a prayers session.

ACTION PLANS 5. Promote the Prayer Partners concept throughout the division among all possible groups: pastors, administrators, church officer bearers, general membership, youth, children, etc.

ACTION PLANS 6. Encourage each denominational employee and Adventist family to engage in daily prayer and family worship. Promote ideas that will help revitalize these worship sessions.

ACTION PLANS 7. Organize a specific time during the week when each organization of the SID will be engaged in intercessory prayer.

ACTION PLANS 8. Assign one day per quarter for fasting and prayer within the division. 9. Encourage regular spiritual retreats at all levels especially for intercessory prayer and intensive Bible study.

ACTION PLANS 10. To encourage the holding of Bible study and prayer sessions before all major meetings such as Mid-year and Year-end committees throughout the SID.

ACTION PLANS 11. Urge all our organizations to establish “prayer-lines” for those in need of prayer to phone in their requests. This can be a service for both members and non-members.

ACTION PLANS It can become an evangelistic outreach if managed properly. The use of modern technologies such as e-mail, SMS, websites, etc., should be used wherever possible.

ACTION PLANS 12. Try to establish workable prayer ministries in rural areas as well, i.e., a “Cock Crows” Ministry where people in need of prayer can gather before heading out to the field each day.

ACTION PLANS 13. To increase the percentage of church members engaged in daily Bible study and prayer from 50 to at least 65.

ACTION PLANS 14. To arrange “round-the-clock” prayer sessions during special meetings. 15. Emphasize that mid-week prayer meetings should be times for real prayer session.

ACTION PLANS 16. Assist the unions to publish a book for daily meditations that can be widely distributed and translated where necessary.

ACTION PLANS 17. Implement plans to revitalize family worship. Make sure the Sabbath School Bible Study Guides are well utilized for this purpose.

ACTION PLANS 18. To print an Ephaphras Ministry report form to be used in every church.

Promise Morning by morning, as the heralds of the gospel kneel before the Lord and renew their vows of consecration to Him, He will grant them the presence of His Spirit, with its reviving, sanctifying power.

Promise As they go forth to the day's duties, they have the assurance that the unseen agency of the Holy Spirit enables them to be "laborers together with God." AA 56
