  3. New Beginnings • There are common reasons we tell God that we should or shouldn’t make some change. • The “Who Me Excuse” (3:11-12). • 11“But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11, NIV)

  4. New Beginnings • The “By What Authority” Excuse (3:13-15). • 13 “Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” (Exodus 3:13, NIV)

  5. New Beginnings • The “What If’s” Excuse (4:1-9). • 1“Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’” (Exodus 4:1, NIV)

  6. New Beginnings • The “But Lord I Don’t Speak Well” Excuse (4:10-12). • 10Moses said to the LORD, “O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10).

  7. New Beginnings • The “Send Someone Else” Excuse (4:13-17). • 13“But he said, “O Lord, please send someone else to do it.” (Exodus 4:13, NIV)

  8. New Beginnings • There are two possibilities: • God will still fulfill his plan, and He will still use you to do it. • God will still fulfill his plan, and you will miss out on it.

  9. New Beginnings • What are some reasons people have difficulty with new beginnings? • Fear. • Inadequate Preparation. • Procrastination. • This is self deception and self destructive!

  10. New Beginnings • Vision. • All of this has to do with our spiritual vision. • Moses spiritual vision had to be attuned. • 47He who belongs to God hears what God says.” (John 8:47, NIV)

  11. New Beginnings • Some practical things to stay on-course: • Reading the Bible • Memory Verses • Prayer Partners • Accountability Partners • What ever it takes for us individually…

  12. New Beginnings Conclusion • Joshua! • Jeremiah! • Moses! • Hosea! • They all had their excuses. • We can all make excuses. • Or…we can TRUST God!
