  2. Who We Are... NRCS resulted from troubled times – the Dust Bowl days of the 1930s. Dust storms ravaged the Nation’s farmland, stripping away millions of tons of topsoil.

  3. What we do… Since that time, NRCS has kept a commitment to protecting and conserving soil and other natural resources on America’s private lands.

  4. What we do... NRCS works with farmers, ranchers and other groups to protect natural resources on private lands. NRCS’ skilled professionals, have a common purpose and passion for conservation.

  7. Our major programs… • Environmental Quality Incentives Program • Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program • NEW Conservation STEWARDSHIP Program • Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program • Wetlands Reserve Program

  8. Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) • Supports production agriculture and environmental quality as compatible goals. • Producers may receive financial and technical help with structural and management conservation practices on agricultural land.

  9. Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) • Based on locally identified natural resource needs consistent with national EQIP priorities. • Local Work Groups (LWG) provide advice to NRCS about local priorities within their local area. • NRCS evaluates applications for funding EQIP contracts consistent with local, state and national priorities.

  10. Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) WHIP provides technical assistance and financial incentives to develop habitat for fish and wildlife on private lands.

  11. Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) CSP encourages producers to address resource concerns in a comprehensive manner by undertaking additional conservation activities; and improving, maintaining, and managing existing conservation activities.

  12. Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program (FRPP) Provides matching funds to help purchase development rights to keep productive farm and ranchland in agricultural uses. Works through existing programs, USDA partners with state, Tribal, or local governments and nongovernmental Organizations. FRPP acquires conservation easements or other interests in land from landowners.

  13. Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) WRP offers landowners the opportunity to protect, restore, and enhance wetlands on their property. NRCS provides technical and financial support to help landowners with their wetland restoration efforts.

  14. Other activities include… Conservation Technical Assistance NRCS provides assistance to land-users in planning and implementing conservation systems.
