  3. Monitor settings • No such thing as “average” web user. Know your audience • Increased resolution -> decreased type size and increased line length • Over 40s • Remember alternative devices (PDAs, phones, kiosks, etc.)

  4. Readability • Function of line length, type size, leading (line-height), type face, type style • What can we control on the monitor?

  5. White space • What is it? Why do we use it? • Chunking/scanning • Structured Information Exercise

  6. Text and graphics • Balancing act • Relative importance • Low-resolution of the monitor (72dpi) • Bandwidth • Readability of links
