  4. What is the Programme for Government? • A manifesto • A contract • A corporate Plan It sets out the Executive’s strategic priorities It does not set out in detail all the programmes and policies which departments will pursue over the PfG period

  5. Programme for Government Priorities • Five strategic andinter-dependentpriorities: • 1. Grow a dynamic, innovative economy • 2. Promote tolerance, inclusion, health and well-being • 3. Protect and enhance our environment and natural resources • 4. Invest to build our infrastructure • 5. Deliver modern, high quality and efficient public services

Growing the economy is the Executive’s top priority • “Sustainable economic growth and increased prosperity will provide the opportunities and means to enhance quality of life, reduce poverty and disadvantage, increase wealth, health and well-being and build stronger, more sustainable and empowered communities”

  7. Key issues for Neighbourhood Renewal • Grow a Dynamic, Innovative Economy • Supporting growth in well-paid skilled, jobs • Increasing skills of the work-force • Addressing economic inactivity and ill-health • Promoting employment opportunities in disadvantaged areas

Key issues for Neighbourhood Renewal • Invest to Build Our Infrastructure: • Building up infrastructure across Northern Ireland to promote economic growth, social progress and environmental protection • Investing £1.4bn in social and affordable housing, and £500m on regenerating disadvantaged areas and communities • Deliver Modern High Quality and Efficient Public Services: • Bringing government closer to people • Ensuring public services are accessible, accountable and responsive to the needs of individuals, local communities and businesses

The Colin Neighbourhood • Background • An area with a population of 28,000 • Essentially 4 significant housing developments • Peripheral to Belfast and Lisburn Cities • High levels of deprivation • Twinbrook & Colin Glen Wards in top 3% most disadvantaged areas. • Poor community infrastructure

  16. STATISTICS • Population approx. 28,000 • 40% under 16 years • 30% lone parent households • 42% of Lisburn’s unemployed in Colin • 49% long term unemployed
