  2. Bachelor of Education UG Courses offered in the Faculty of Education at the University of Canberra include: • 1. Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) Birth - 8 UC/CIT (4 yrs) • pathway for students with the Diploma of Children’s Services from CIT/TAFE (3 years) • Bachelor of Education (3 - 8) (4 yrs) • Inclusive Education Minor + two EC units with • preschool and K-2 focus • 3. Bachelor of Education (Primary) with 4 Open Electives (4 yrs) • Bachelor of Education (Middle School) (4 yrs) • includes 6 unit Restricted Major • 5.Bachelor of Education (Graduate Entry) for Early Childhood and Primary students with a previous UG degree (5 years) • 6.Bachelor of Educational Studies - Exit degree (72 cps or 3yrs). • This is a non-teaching award. • Bachelor of Education (Conversion) (1 year) • 8. An Early Childhood centre (Wiradjuri) attached to the EC Courses

Bachelor of Education (Birth-8) Early Childhood Course 446AA- UC/CIT • This is an innovative practice between two tertiary institutions that produces a degree in 4 years and subsumes the Diploma of Children’s Services after 2 years. The courses combines the Primary Degree with the Diploma. The Diploma is equivalent to a 6 Unit Major in Early Childhood delivered at UC and at the present time this is cost free. Flexible Entry and Exit points. • • Students entering UC from CIT or TAFE with a two year Diploma of Children's Services will receive 1 year academic credit (24 cps) for their qualification and continue to study for 3 years fulltime to receive their Bachelor of Education which will add to their employment opportunities by allowing them to teach in Preschools and Primary schools.

  6. 2.Bachelor of Education (3-8) 866AA. • Students entering this course will be eligible to teach in Preschools and Primary schools in ACT . • This course has Early Childhood content (3-8 yrs) plus an Inclusive Education Minor (4 units) selected from the Major in Inclusive Education (8 units). • Registered for ACT (P-6) & NSW Primary schools (K-6).

  7. 3. Bachelor of Education • (Primary) 383AE • 4 Open Elective units can be studied as a Minor or randomly selected from other Faculties at the University • Eligible to teach in Grades K-6 • 4. Bachelor of Education • (Middle School) 867AA • 6 Unit Restricted Major such as Applied Economics, Biological Chemistry, English Language & Literature, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Literary Studies, law and Society, Japanese (Beginning) , Chinese (Beginning), Psychology, etc. • Eligible to teach in Primary and Secondary Schools

  8. 5.Bachelor of Education (Grad Entry 3-8) 788AA Bachelor of Education (Grad Entry) 789AA Students entering UC with a 3 yearUG Bachelors Degreewill be able to complete the Bachelor of Education (Grad Entry) in 2 years fulltime. ACT accepts all first degrees. NSW prospective student have designated degrees that are suitable for teaching in NSW Primary Schools. The initial UG Degree is mapped against NSW Institute of Teachers requirements.

  9. 6. Bachelor of Educational Studies - Exit degree (72 cps or 3yrs). This is a non-teaching award for students who reach 3rd year and decide not to teach. 7. Bachelor of Education (conversion) – 1 year study for students already awarded a 3 year Bachelor of Teaching with at least 2 years experience in Early Childhood. This is to upgrade a 3 year qualification to 4 years.

Wiradjuri • An Early Learning Centre within the Faculty of Education catering for 3-5 year old children that services the University of Canberra students and staff as well as the Canberra community. • Centre is staffed with Pre-service Early Childhood educators, encouraging them to apply theory in practice. By mentoring them into the profession they graduate with a clear understanding of Early Childhood pedagogy and issues. • Academics and post-graduate students conduct research throughout the Centre. • Wiradjuri core staff tutor in units such as Early Childhood Development and Pedagogy, Socio-cultural Politics in Education and Professional Experience. This allows for further professional development in the Early Childhood profession. • This Work Integrated Model provides alignment between Wiradjuri, Research, Work Experience and the Bachelor of Education course.

The course structure contains: Education Units - Education Foundations, Promoting Positive Learning Environments, Learning with Technology, Responding to Individual Need in Education, Indigenous Education: What works, Curriculum Studies, Socio-Cultural Politics Curriculum Units - Language Education 1&2, Mathematics Education 1&2,Social and Environmental Education 1&2, Science & Technology Education 1&2, Arts Education 1&2 and Health and Movement 1&2 3 Major/Minor – Major in Early Childhood: Minor in Inclusive Education etc. 4. Professional Experience - number of days vary according topathway chosen eg Joint Course 130 days, 3-8 pathway 100 days, Graduate Entry 70 days. A 40 day teaching internship completed in the final year is a major part of Professional Experience. 5. MYO equals units that are offered in Mid Year Offering (Winter Term)

  12. Winter Term • This is a NEW addition to the UC Calendar • and is positioned between Semester 1 & 2 • Intensive 7 week term (14 weeks in 7) • 2 Units of study only • Allows for acceleration and flexibility within the courses

  14. Workload Students contact time for each unit studied is a one hour lecture and a two hour tutorial. Three or Four units each semester is considered a full-time load. Moodle online learning and lecture streaming also available
