  25. What would you do if? • During a PLT module 3 SSCOs sit at the back of room together discussing their upcoming work programmes.

  26. What would you do if? • During a primary training programme a SSCO arrives late. They are dressed in Jeans and chewing. All through a presentation they doodle and talk to a PLT on their table.

  27. What would What would you do if? • After meeting an SSCO who tells you that their job is to “visit primary schools and tell them what to do and how to teach”, they teach an in adequate lesson in their own secondary school

  28. What would you do if? • An SSCO is giving Health and Safety advice which is incorrect and dangerous?

  29. What would you do if? • As part of their “transition work” an SSCO tells primary colleagues that they should be collecting levels in every “sport” that the primary school deliver. The numbers should then be added up and averaged in order to pass that information onto the secondary school

  30. So What is the role of the SSCO?

  33. The Challenge Develop a modern, world-class Physical Education and School Sport system that will inspire and challenge all young people and prepare them for a fit and healthy future where physical activity is embedded into their lifestyles

  34. Physical Education Assessment An area of weakness. Does not support pupil progress. Not reliable and valid or against learning outcomes Not used to inform curriculum Where best practise – core tasks used, 4 strands delivered, review Los and used to adjust the curriculum

  35. Physical Education Curriculum • Dominated by performance aspects • Dominated by games • Short unconnected units • Design does not meet needs of all learners • ½ term units

  36. Physical Education Teaching and Learning • Primary teachers often rely on prepared SOW and cannot respond to diverse needs • Challenge often too low • Approaches do not meet the needs of some learners • AOTTs not used effectively
