As a leader you must recognize your leadership impact on others. Leaders regardless of their position in life or business have an impact on all those you touch. It is an asset that we all carry. The important thing is that we have a positive impact on others. So, how can you develop skills that will help you leave the most positive and significant impact on others?
Learn how you communicate with people Communication is so much more than conversation. Good communication skills begin with great listening skills. Learn to quiet your mind; stop all the multitasking and listen deeply to whoever is speaking. Keep your mind quiet and non-judgmental; do not react while listening.
Absorb what is being said; reflect what your heard the speaker say and then, and only then provide a respectful response. The listener will feel they have been heard, that you took time to listen, and be much more accepting of your response, especially if the response was not the one they had hoped to receive.
Be your own person you have your own set of beliefs and you know what you want and believe in. Stand true to your values and your vision. Doing so will allow you to lead with a clear and non conflicted mind. Understand that people will soon see through any phoniness.
You will lose your followers who feel that you are being anything other than yourself. Make decisions based on your values, beliefs and your vision. When you are true to yourself, others will see you as an individual with credibly and ethics. It will never be any better than that! Take responsibility for your actions and for the results that come from you and your team.
Lead by example The old saying "do unto others as you would have others do unto you" is not a throw away statement. Treat others with genuine respect. Keep your emotions in balance. Stay calm when the going gets tough. Continually check your attitude and maintain your emotional intelligence.
Keep your eyes open for opportunities to catch others doing right. Identify the strengths and gifts of others and provide opportunities to recognize and celebrate the talents and successes of your team.
Keep your mind open for constant growth. Leaders are always growing, always learning, and always looking for and finding ways to empower others to be their best. We are all leaders. Be a great one!
