  1. Why Paint Thickness Gauge is An Essential Tool for Automotive Industry? A coating thickness gauge is also called a paint meter. It is used for measuring the thickness of dry films. The dry film thickness is one of the most important measurements in the process of coating. It is because it has a great effect on the durability of the coating, its quality, and its cost. Measurement of dry film thickness is used for assessing the coating’s life, the appearance of the product and functions. It also guarantees the compliance with a host of international set norms. There are three different models in which dry film thickness gauge is available. Every coating of thickness offers the user with enhanced functionality. Fundamentally coating thickness gauges are perfect for single-handed functions. This is because the wide track of the internal search provides better stability for the measurement of coating thickness. The variety of coating thickness gauge includes a wide range of probes, offering the best dry film thickness measurement accuracy. Companionable with the computers and software in mobiles, a single thickness of coating measurements can be transferred through USB or Bluetooth to a computer or mobile. These devices are used for analysing and immediate report generation. The material used for Manufacturing Initially, steel was used for manufacturing the exterior of the automobiles. Steel was used because it could balance the cost with the strength. These days aluminium is used for manufacturing some parts for reducing the weight but not as the factor of safety. These metals are painted to evade the process of corrosion and to maintain the cosmetic appeal. Bumpers and fascia systems are usually made of plastic and compound materials. Being lightweight, it provides designers a freedom for making innovative ideas. In some recently made cars and trucks, it is uncommon to find •The doors and fenders made of steel, •The roofs and hoods made of aluminium and •Bumpers and mirrors made of plastic. Importance of Paint Thickness Gauge Formal systems of quality necessitate coating thickness gauge readings to be taken, logged and calibrated. The users record the readings taken by thickness gauges and they can be traced to National Standards.

  2. For testing the precision of specific gauge, it is extremely important to have shims of thicknesses related to the coating in question. Various firms provide a wide range of specialized foils together with null test plates. This is done to assure the correctness of the coating thickness gauge. Measuring Principles There are three principles to measure the paint thickness. The users choose these principles depending on the kind of coating, material which is being painted and the size and the shape of the part. They include Ultrasonic (mainly used on non-metallic substrates), Eddy Current (Metal) and Magnetic Reluctance (Ferrous metal only). Some gauges can do more than one measurement type.
