1. Epidemiology Studies factors and mechanisms involved with the:
Frequency and spread of diseases and other health problems within a human population.
Concerned with these terms: incidence rates, prevalence rates morbidity frequencies, mortality frequencies
2. Incidence Number of new cases within a set population (cases per 100,000
Prevalence total number infected at any given time.
Morbidity affected rate. How many people in a population are affected? X in 100,000
Mortality number of deaths due to the disease
3. Epidemiological studies West Nile Virus

6. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/index.htm Dead Birds: Birds are very susceptible to West Nile Virus, especially blue jays and crows. Dead birds in an area are a good early warning that infected mosquitoes are present. Reporting dead birds of all kinds is one of the best ways you can help with the Department's surveillance of West Nile Virus. Mississippi residents can report a dead birdby calling 1-877-WST-NILE (1-877-978-6453).
7. Oil of lemon eucalyptus [active ingredient: p-menthane 3,8-diol (PMD)], a plant- based repellent, is also registered with EPA. In two recent scientific publications, when oil of lemon eucalyptus was tested against mosquitoes found in the US it provided protection similar to repellents with low concentrations of DEET.
8. Cumulative 2007 Data as of 3 am, May 29, 2007* National Cumulative Human Disease Cases:4
9. Another deadly form of infection was puerperal (occurring at the time of childbirth) fever, a streptococcus infection of the uterus that struck women who had just given birth. As more women gave birth at hospitals, epidemics of puerperal fever raced through maternity wards, sharply increasing maternal death rates. Most obstetricians (doctors who treat pregnant women) were baffled by the causes and possible prevention of this
10. A bacteria sample. Until the relationship between bacteria and disease was discovered, doctors paid little attention to surgical cleanliness.
