Base Words and Endings. -s, -es, -ies. Endings –s, -es, ies. What does plural mean? More than one. Endings –s, -es, ies . Some base words have –s, -es, or –ies added at the end to make it plural. The –es or ies has a vowel sound and can add a syllable to the base word. .
