    7. 3.The present complete Lordship of Jesus. 4. The non-existence of the New Covenant . 5. The gross misrepresentation of the place of the Church in the eternal plan of God. 6.Postponement Theory which could well, in the minds of many, (especially unbelieving Jews) Make God appear to be faithless or inadequate . 9. Current Affairs: The Middle East affairs have hit our pocket-book and home comforts in the scarcity of fuel. Anything which does that is interesting. The teachers notes below give more info than shown on the slide and provide more background info for the teacher to use: DATE/HISTORICAL SETTING: Believed to have been written between AD 57 and AD 59. There is no reference to the destruction of the Temple thus believed to be written prior to 70 AD. Many believe that it was likely written by Paul while he was in Corinth in Acts 20. Paul went to Rome and there was beheaded according to legend. Paul had evidently not yet traveled to Rome as he said in chapter 1 verses 11-15 that he wanted to come but had not yet done so. Paul said in Romans 15:25 that he was about to go to Jerusalem. In Romans 16:1 he talks of Phoebe who was from a town near Corinth. Paul was writing from a city and mentions the name of Erastus who was the director of public works according to Romans 16:23.The teachers notes below give more info than shown on the slide and provide more background info for the teacher to use: DATE/HISTORICAL SETTING: Believed to have been written between AD 57 and AD 59. 10. The book-stalls are full of books on it; The radio pours it out; the television spreads it; websites preach it; the bumper stickers preach it. Anything with this amount of propaganda catches the eye. Propaganda: This is the next discussion question that the class can answer. Some answers will be given in the following slides. This is the next discussion question that the class can answer. Some answers will be given in the following slides.

    12. The fear element : If the wars and catastrophes which these gentlemen predict are just around the corner-they have a corner on the fear market. He who makes us afraid has our attention.

    13. When the jewish people, after nearly 2,000 years of exile, under relentless persecution, became a nation again on 14 May 1948 the fig tree put forth its first leaves. Jesus said that this would indicate that He was at the door, ready to return. Then He saidTruly I say to you, this generationwill not pass away until all of these things take place (Matthew 24: 34 NASB) Late Great Planet Earth .p.53,54

    15. WHAT IS THE OVERALL PICTURE PAINTED BY THE PREMILLENNIALISTS?

    16. Confirmation by John. The book of revelation is,of course, the classic passage on premillennialism.Revelation ,while subject to all types of scholarly abuse and divergent interpretation,if taken in its plain intent yields a simple outline of premilllennialism truth-first a time of great tribulation, then the second advent, the binding of Satan, the delivrance and blessing of the saints, a rigtheous goverment .

    17. On earth for 1000years,followed by the final judgments and the new heaven and the new earth .The only method of interpretaion of revelation which has ever yielded a consistent answer to the question of its meaning is that which interprets the book, however symbolic,as having its general revelation plain, one to be fulfilled literally, and therefore subjct to future fulfillment (Mill.Kingdom p.118)

    19. What is the nature of the evidence given by the Millennialists?

    20. It should be obvious that these predicted movements of the history are interrelated in their general time of beginning and ending. this is why the prophecies can be pieced together to make a coherent picture, even though the pieces are scattered in small bits throughout the Old and New Testaments

    21. A GLOOMY MOMENT It is a gloomy moment in the history of our country. Not in the lifetime of most men has there been so much grave and deep apprenhension;never has the future seemed so incalculable as at this time. The domestic economic situation is in chaos. Our dollar is weak throughout the world.Prices are so high as to be utterly impossible. The

    22. The Political cauldron seethes and bubbles with uncertainty. Russia hangs,as usual, like a cloud ,dark and silent, upon the horizon. It is a solemn moment. Of our troubles, no man can see the end.

    23. Is, of course, the classic passage on premillennialism.Revelation, while subject to all types of scholarly abuse and divergent interpretation, if taken in its plain intent yields a simple outline of premillenial truth-first a time of great tribulation, then the second advent , the binding of Satan, the delivrance and blessing of the saints, a righteous government (continued)

    27. Dan 8:2626 And the vision of the evenings and mornings which hath been told is true: but shut thou up the vision; for it belongeth to many days to come. ASV

    28. Rev 1:1,31:1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants what must soon take place; and he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 3 Blessed is he who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written therein; for the time is near. RSV

    30. Luke 21:20-2220 But when ye see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that her desolation is at hand.21 Then let them that are in Judea flee unto the mountains; and let them that are in the midst of her depart out; and let not them that are in the country enter therein.22 For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ASV

    31. Luke 21:23-2423 Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. ASV

    33. Matt 24:20-21

    34. Matt 24:34

    35. Why Do millennialists believe as they do? Isnt it just a difference of opinion as to what Revelation 20 teaches ?

    36. .

    37. 1.This is itself a basic law of hermeneutics.

    38. The Old testament prophecies if literally interpreted cannot be regarded as having been fulfilled or as being capable of fulfillement in this present ageIn other words, a literal fulfillement would demand a millennial kingdom on earth after the second advent, i.e, the premillenial interpretation

    39. The fifth view, and the only one which provides any intelligent explanation of this portion of Scripture is that which assigns Ezekiels temple to the future millennial period. Inasmuch as no fulfillement of this passage has ever taken place in history,if a literal interpretation of prophecy be followed,it would be most reasonable to assumed that a future temple would be built in the millennium as the center of worship

    41. MUST ALL SCRIPTURE BE LITERALLY INTERPRETED?

    42. Look at some of the things which follow if we hold that they must all be literally interpreted:

    43. Isa 40:3-53 The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain: 5 and the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it. ASV

    44. Malachi.4:5-65 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of Jehovah come. 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers; lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. ASV

    45. Matt 17:10-11

    46. Matt 17:12-1312 but I say into you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them.13 Then understood the disciples that he spoke unto them of John the Baptist. ASV

    47. Ezek 37:2222 and I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all; and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all; ASV

    48. Ezek 37:24-2524 And my servant David shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in mine ordinances, and observe my statutes, and do them.25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children's children, for ever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever. ASV

    49. Ezek 37:26

    50. According to Ezekiel 37:24,after Israel is regathered to their ancient land,David is going to be raised from the dead to be king over Israel, and God will make a covenat of peace with His people (Ezek.37:26) (Mill.Kdom p 274)

    51. Ezekiel 16:53-5453 And I will turn again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them; 54 that thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be ashamed because of all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them. ASV

    53. Isaiah 11:13-1413 Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart, And those who harass Judah will be cut off; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, And Judah will not harass Ephraim. 14 And they will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west; Together they will plunder the sons of the east; They will possess Edom and Moab; And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them. NASB

    54. Isa 11:13-1413 The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and they that vex Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.14 And they shall fly down upon the shoulder of the Philistines on the west; together shall they despoil the children of the east: they shall put forth their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them. ASV

    55. Micah 5:2

    56. Micah 5:55 And this man shall be our peace. When the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. ASV

    57. Micah 5:66 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our border.ASV

    59. Isaiah 19:19-2019 In that day shall there be an altar to Jehovah in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to Jehovah.20 And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto Jehovah of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they shall cry unto Jehovah because of oppressors, and he will send them a saviour, and a defender, and he will deliver them.ASV

    60. Isaiah 19:21-2221 And Jehovah shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know Jehovah in that day; yea, they shall worship with sacrifice and oblation, and shall vow a vow unto Jehovah, and shall perform it.22 And Jehovah will smite Egypt, smiting and healing; and they shall return unto Jehovah, and he will be entreated of them, and will heal them.ASV

    61. Isaiah 19:2323 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and the Egyptians shall worship with the Assyrians.ASV

    63. Isaiah 34:5-65 For my sword hath drunk its fill in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. 6 The sword of Jehovah is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for Jehovah hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ASV

    64. Isaiah 34:8-98 For Jehovah hath a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. 9 And the streams of Edom shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. ASV

    65. Isaiah 34:10-1110 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.11 But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it; and the owl and the raven shall dwell therein: and he will stretch over it the line of confusion, and the plummet of emptiness.ASV

    66. Isaiah 34:17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever; from generation to generation shall they dwell therein. ASV

    67. Ezekiel 45:1717 And it shall be the prince's part to give the burnt-offerings, and the meal-offerings, and the drink-offerings, in the feasts, and on the new moons, and on the Sabbaths, in all the appointed feasts of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin-offering, and the meal-offering, and the burnt-offering, and the peace-offerings, to make atonement for the house of Israel.ASV

    68. Ezekiel 44:15

    69. Ezekiel 44:9

    70. Isaiah 66:22-2322 "For just as the new heavens and the new earth Which I make will endure before Me," declares the LORD, "So your offspring and your name will endure. 23 "And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from sabbath to sabbath, All mankind will come to bow down before Me," says the LORD. NASB

    71. The battle of Armageddon follows after:

    72. 5. The tatooing of all the people in the world who are not believers in Christ.6. Another series of plagues which destroy all the rest of the oceans by turning them to blood, and all the rest of the drinking water by turning it to blood.7. Nuclear war which so affects the sun as to scorch men and cause a world-wide epidemic of serious boils.

    73. At this point the battle of Armageddon begins with:

    74. Ezekiel 39:99 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall make fires of the weapons and burn them, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall make fires of them seven years;ASV

    75. Ezekiel 39:1010 so that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall make fires of the weapons; and they shall plunder those that plundered them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord Jehovah.ASV

    76. Ezekiel 39:1111 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place for burial in Israel, the valley of them that pass through on the east of the sea; and it shall stop them that pass through: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude; and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog.ASV

    77. Ezekiel 39:12-1312 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying them, that they may cleanse the land.

    78. Using the figure of 3,000,000, the burial detail works 210 days.On the basis of their each burying only 1 corpse per 24 hours,we have 630,000,000 corpses. If they used machinery to bury and averaged 10 personnes per 24 hours, that would make 6,00,000,000 corpses.

    79. At this point the battle of Armageddon begins with:

    80. WHAT IS THE POINT OF NON-LITERAL SPEECH IN THE BIBLE?

    81. Hebrews 1:1-21:1 God, having of old time spoken unto the fathers in the prophets by divers portions and in divers manners,2 hath at the end of these days spoken unto us in his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds; ASV

    82. Hebrews 10:1

    83. Hosea 8:1313 As for the sacrifices of mine offerings, they sacrifice flesh and eat it; but Jehovah accepteth them not: now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins; they shall return to Egypt. ASV

    84. Isaiah 11:6-76 "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. 7 The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. NKJV

    85. Isaiah 11:8-98 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.

    86. Isaiah 11:10

    87. Romans 15:9,12

    88. Romans 15:10-1210 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; And let all the peoples praise him.12 And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope. ASV

    89. In this and similar passages the second coming is implied in what the Son of God accomplishes upon the earth .A full picture of the milennial reign following the second advent is given in Isaiah 11:1-12:6 (Mill.Kdom p.266)

    90. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE SERIOUS DOCTRINAL ERRORS FLOWING FROM THIS PREMILLENNIALISM?

    91. The error concercning the New Covenant :

    93. Premillennialism is also related to the literal fulfillement of the new covenant revealed in Jeremiah and Ezekiel .This covenant pictures a period in human history when God would replace the Mosaic covenant with a new covenant which He would write upon their hearts (Cont.next slide)

    94. It would be fulfilled in the period when Israel would no longer need to teach every man his neighbor and proclaim the truth of Jehova, for a s the prophet wrote: They shall all know me from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah (Jer.31:34). (Mill.kdom,p.vii)

    99. Premillenialists claim that the new covenant of Hebrews 9:15 is a new covenant with the church. How could it possibly be a NEW covenant with the church when the church never existed before, and therefore could have had no previous covenant made with her?

    131. Concerning the error of the restoration of the Levitical religion:The premillenialists believe the shadow system is coming back.

    132. The literalness of the future temple and its sacrificial system, however,is not inseparable from the premillennial concept of the millennium and, though in keeping with general principle of literal interpretation, is not the sine qua non of millenialism.

    142. Concerning the error that the Church is unknown to the Old Testament:The premillennialists believe that the Church and the Church age (ie. this present age)are totally unknown to the Old Testament.

    143. 1.The Old Testament prophecies speak of Jewish dominance in the kingdom of the Messiah:

    145. While dispensationalists have regarded the present age as a parenthesis unexpected and without specific prediction in the Old Testament, some premillenarians have tended to strike a compromise interpretation in which part of the Old Testament predictions are fulfilled now and part in the future (Contd next slide)

    146. In some cases they have conceded so much to the amillenarians that for all practical purposes they have surrendered premillenialism as well

    147. Nothing should be plainer to one reading the Old Testament than that the foreview therein provided did not predict a period of time between the two advents. This very fact confused even the prophets (1Peter 1:10-12),

    148. further,it was shown that the present age is a parenthesis or a time period not predicted by the Old Testament and therefore not fulfilling or advancing the program of events revealed inthe Old Testament foreview

    161. 1.Paul preached only what the Old Testament said should happen:

    162. 1.Paul taught only what the Old Testament taught:2.But the Old Testament knew nothing at all about the Church:3.Therefore Paul taught nothing about the Church!

    172. Concerning the error that God postponed the establishment of the old Testament kingdom:the Millenialists believe God was about to establish the Old Testament kingdom in the first century. But because the Jews rejected Jesus he postponed it and established the Church.

    173. Had the people received Him,He would have fulfilled the kingly prophecies in their day in addition to the ones regarding the suffering Mesiah. But when the Jewish nation as a whole rejected Christ, the fulfillement of His kingship was postponed until the final culmination of world history

    175. The apostles didnt realise that the Kingdom promised to Israel had been temporarily postponed until God could call out from among the Gentiles a people who shuld accept His messiah and then be eligible to partake of the blessings promised to Israel

    176. In the present age,Israel has been set aside, her promises held in abeyance, with no progress in the fulfillment of her program. This posponement is considered no more difficult than the delay of forty years in entering the promised land .promises may be delayed in fulfillment but not cancelled

    177. As late as Acts 1:6 the disciples were still looking for a literal Kingdom. While refused revelation concerning the timeof the kingdom , their hope is not denied, spiritualized,or transferred to the church. The kingdom hope is postponed and the new age of which they never dreamed was interposed, but the promises continued undimmed.Israels day of glory is yet to come and the Christ will reign on earth

    180. The second coming itself is in view in Daniel 7:13-14.where Daniel records a prophetic vision

    181. Jesus was referring to this were in Daniel 7:13 and everyone in that court of law knew what He was talking about .The high priests knew the prophets and their writings. They were furious with Jesus and proclaimed Him a blasphemer because He was claiming to be the Ancient of days who was coming to set up Gods kingdom on earth

    182. Did Jesus intend to set up a national Jewish kingdom at his first coming in the 1st century A.D.?If YES. This was going against the prophets who said it was not to be set up until the 20th century. If NO, Then He didnt postpone the kingdom at all.

    183. If He WASNT going to set it up because the prophets foretold a 20th century establishement.he was still wrong for saying what he said in Mark 1:15.

    184. This new people of God,called the Church, was a mystery in the Old Testament. The apostles dint seem to fully understand this until in acts 15 James recalled a prophecy from Amos which showed that God would return to give the Kingdom to Israel at a time after Gentiles were brought into His family (see Acts 15:13-19).

    186. Instead of identifying the period of Gentile conversion with the rebuilding of the tabernacle of David,it is carefully distinguished by the first (referring to Israels coming glory). The passage, instead of identifying Gods purpose for the church and for the nation Israel, etablished a specific time order.

    187. Israels blessing will not come until I return, apparently reference to the second coming of Christ. That it could not refer either to the incarnation or to the coming of the spirit at Pentecost is evident in that neither is a return.

    188. The error concerning the authority of Jesus: The millennialists do not believe Christ has ALL the authority promised to him in the Old Testament.

    189. When we see the mess the world is in, its sometimes hard for us to believe that Christ is actually the prince of the kings of the earth. This is because even though Christ has the Right to rule the earth. He isnt exercising this authority over kings and kingdoms at this time.

    197. The error involving the faithfulness of God:The premillialists hold that God unconditionally guaranteed to the physical descendants of Abraham through Jacob blessing in Christ!

    198. Premillanarians hold that the Abrahamic covenant is a declaration of Gods intention which is not Conditional upon the obedience of individuals or nations for its fulfillement-an unconditional plan of God.As given in the Scriptures, the Abrahamic coveanat is hinged upon only one condition.

    199. All agree that the individual enjoyment of blessing under the covenant is to a large degree dependent upon the individuls faith and obedience.

    200. Obedience related to foreordination,It is of course anticipated in the sovereignty and foreknowledge of God that,to the extent that obedience entered into the fulfillment of the covenant, such obedience was predestined and determined.

    201. Again it should be made clear that God is not undertaking to fulfill the promise to allthe physical seed of Abraham, but throughsome of them, chosen as the line of the seed. While the line of the seed culminates in Christ, who fulfills much of the promise of blessing to the Gentiles, it is clear that all the twelve tribes, not only Judah, were considered the seed of Abraham and in particular the seed of Israel.
