Tectonically speaking - Saudi Arabia is on the move • Area: 775,000 square miles • Between Nubian shield (southwest) and Zagros mountains of Iran (northeast) • Ancient rock formations contain rich ore bodies • Extensive shallow water sedimentary rocks contain large deposits of industrial minerals

  3. Sand Arabian Shield Cover rocks Coastal plain Lava Fields Saudi Arabia has both igneous and sedimentarymineral deposits • Arabian Shield is the focus of gold exploration and mining • Surrounding sedimentary formations contain minerals and hold the Kingdom’s oil and gas fields

  4. Growth in commercial mining built on anestablished foundation

The Fertilizer & Aluminum Projects are now possible because of the railroad implementation Al Jalamid (Phosphate) Az Zabirah (Bauxite) Ras Az Zawr (Industrial Complex) • Al Jalamid and Az Zabirah will be connected to Ras Az Zawr by railroad • New track will be built between Dammam and Ras Az Zawr via Jubail • In the future, Riyadh will be connected to the North-South railroad Riyadh
