  2. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia The largest, and capital city of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh isn’t what you’d typically expect from the Middle East. The word Riyadh translates to ‘the Gardens’, a nod to its 14th-century fertile lands, canals, and trees. But today, the city stands firmly rooted in the 21st century. There’s an abundance of places to see, particularly if you’re a history buff - from elaborate palaces and forts, colourful souks and mosques, to one of the world's tallest and most majestic skyscrapers - Kingdom Center. Because the city is so meshed together, with delightful clashes between old and new, you can see much of it on foot. Nestled in between numerous modern blocks at the heart of Riyadh you’ll find Al Masmak Fortress - which is over 150 years old. Tourists can walk around the Fortress and museum, taking in the stories of ancient raids and war prisoners, before nipping next door to the Souq Al Zal to purchase unique gifts for the family. If you’ve got a head for heights you’ll want to make a beeline for the iconic Sky Bridge at the Kingdom Center. A trip in the high-speed lift will see you suspended 300m above the city, with breathtaking views of the Riyadh skyline. On your way back down to earth, you can make a stop on the 77th floor to take a look around the highest mosque in the world, the King Abdullah Mosque. Before you leave, you can enjoy the designer boutiques and luxury restaurants situated on the ground floor - you might need a stiff drink after all those dizzying heights!

  3. A quick trip to the north western outskirts of the city takes you to Diriyah, the original home of the Saudi royal family. This small township is considered the Pearl Of Saudi Arabia, celebrating over 300 years of culture, history, and tradition. Visitors can tour the city ruins and lovingly restored mud-brick palaces and buildings, as well as take in the Arabian horse shows and theatrical performances designed to whisk you back in time to the Saudi royal dynasty. If you’re a foodie you’re in for a real treat in Riyadh. Saudi food has an incredibly unique taste and style, with a myriad of influences from places such as Egypt and Yemen. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the simplest, most delightful street food, as well as elaborate, culinary symphonies from the most exclusive of restaurants. Kabsa, a staple of the country, is a wonderful meat and rice dish, which is eaten from a large sharing bowl with your hands - a true Saudi experience. On the streets, you’ll find the most indulgent Shawarmas, packed with meats, pickles, and garlic. Tourists and locals alike flock to the most popular Shawarma stalls at lunchtime. Because Riyadh is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, you can expect to find lots of luxury accommodations for your trip. The Intercontinental Riyadh, for example, boasts award-winning standards of opulence and service, as well as two gigantic pools, a slew of top-tier restaurants and tea lounges, as well as a 9 hole golf course. The Fairmont is simply palatial - it’s five-star all the way, with two spas and five restaurants, as well as having all of your room facilities controlled by a handy guest tablet - so you can set your lights just how you like them, or program the sound system to play your favourite music each morning. If Riyadh sounds like the reward seat destination for you, you can get off-peak return Club/Business Class BA reward seats for as little as 100,000 British Airways Avios. Right now there’s excellent seat availability from February 2023.

  4. Lagos, Nigeria By no means a standard reward seat destination, Lagos is one for true adventurers. If you like to have your world turned upside down when you take a trip, you’ll love this Nigerian gemstone. It’s loud and proud, with Conde Nast Traveller calling it a “city of past and future”, a real melting pot of history, development, and vision. Most recently Lagos has built itself quite the reputation for its fashion, art, and music scenes, so if you’re a bit of a creative yourself you’re sure to love it. A coastal city in Africa, Lagos is made up of the mainland and an island, linked by three bridges, with an abundance of entertainment to be found. Let’s not ignore that yes, some parts of Nigeria do have a bit of a reputation when it comes to tourist safety, but Lagos is not one of them. You can tour the city by bus or taxi, and if you like, there are plenty of tour guides available to do this with you. We’d recommend this actually because you’ll get a real insight into the history of Lagos and the significance of local statues and architecture. Because Lagos spreads across the mainland and island there are some phenomenal views to be found of the beaches and lagoons flowing into the Atlantic ocean. Whilst you’re in the city, a trip to Lekki Market will transport you to a world of whimsical chaos and colour. You’ll find delicious street food, beautiful traditional arts and crafts, and unusual gifts for family and friends back home. A visit to Kalakuta Museum is a key to-do when you visit the city. The museum preserves the antiques and legacy of Fela Kuta - a musician, activist, and famous

  5. polygamist who married 27 women in one day. Fela is globally considered the pioneer of Afrobeat, a Nigerian musical genre that Combines West African music with American funk and jazz. At his most famous, he was described as one of Africa’s “most charismatic musical performers”. You can take guided tours of the family home and shrine, accompanied by English-speaking tour guides. A short ride takes you to the Lekki Conservation Centre, where you’ll be able to experience wonderfully exotic wildlife in all its glory. You’ll spot crocodiles, monkeys, and birds in their natural habitat, whilst the fearless among us will undoubtedly enjoy a walk on the Canopy Walkways, where you can experience the jungle from high in the treetops. Just like Kenyans, Nigerians take their food seriously, and there’s so much variety to fill your plate with. Jollof fried rice and spicy Asun goat meat offer traditional mouth-watering goodness. And because Nigerians believe in using all parts of the animal within dishes, to prevent waste, expect to find goat head and tongue in recipes such as Isi Ewu, a local chili. If you’re a fan of fine dining you’ll be pleasantly surprised in Lagos. You’ll find exquisite seafood restaurants, top-tier Japanese sushi, and even luxury Italian restaurants, as well as five-star venues serving Nigerian-inspired menus. Lagos boasts some truly beautiful resorts and hotels to stay in. The Lagos Continental is situated right in the heart of the city, boasting sea views, an outdoor pool, a fitness centre, and a restaurant. The White Orchid is a five-star hotel where you’ll find plenty of luxury and comfort. With a 24-hour concierge, lounge bar, restaurant, swimming pool, and room service there are plenty of facilities to help you unwind after a long day of adventuring. If Lagos sounds like your perfect reward seat destination, you can get off-peak return Club/Business Class BA reward seats for as little as 100,000 Avios. Right now there’s excellent seat availability from January 2023.

  6. Bahrain, Middle East A small Arab state situated on the southwestern coast of the Persian Gulf, Bahrain is full of intrigue and promise. Exotic, dreamy blue-green waters surround the region, and it boasts a thriving, colourful food and arts scene. Because Bahrain is nestled between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as attracting many ex-pats from across the globe due to its commercial growth and a big vision for the future, you can expect a traveller experience that is moulded by a myriad of different cultures and traditions. The bay contains some stunning beaches, and Bahrain is blessed with consistently lovely weather, so a lazy day or two by the shore is a must. Bilaj Al Jazayer has recently benefited from investment and development and the beach is surrounded by a good selection of eateries and cafes. If you’re looking for something truly unique to do at the beaches, try a spot of pearl diving. The region was once described as the Island of Pearls, and you can seek out these precious treasures yourself. You can even catch a boat to the beautiful Al Dar Islands from Sitra Port where you’ll be able to rent a beach hut for the day and relax with a spot of dolphin watching or seawater fishing. If you’re a fan of Formula 1, a visit to the Bahrain International Circuit is an absolute must. Of course, the Grand Prix takes place there in March 2023, but you can take a tour of the venue anytime, and even pay to drive the racetrack. The Persian Gulf is a real haven for divers and snorkeling enthusiasts. Dive Bahrain is the world's first “underwater theme park”, where divers can explore 100,000 square metres of artificial reefs, marine habitats, and dive sites including sunken ships and, unbelievably, a 70-metre-long Boeing 747 - so if you’re an aviation fan

  7. who can dive, you’ll find yourself in heaven! Dive Bahrain has big plans for the future too, including adding more dive structures, with the next being a replica of a traditional Bahraini pearl merchant’s house. For a relatively tiny destination, Bahrain certainly has a huge variety of foods to offer its visitors. Bahrain fuses Persian, Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Portuguese, Arab, and British flavours to create some truly unique cuisine. Samboosas are a variable stuffed pastry that is served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Stuffed with meats, cheeses, and other vegetables, they can be purchased as a snack as you wander the streets. Machboos and Emmawash are meat, shrimp, and rice dishes, with a special blend of spices that can be found on the menu in the simplest of establishments, to top-tier restaurants across the bay. If you’re a foodie, there’s an abundance of restaurants to choose from, where you’ll find chefs of regional prominence, right up to celebrity chefs. You can experience the local delicacies but, if the mood strikes you, you’ll also be able to order sushi and Japanese, Mediterranean, Asian and Italian. Wolfgang Puck has a steakhouse at The Four Seasons and Talia Bashmi has her own fusion restaurant in the city. Like everything else in Bahrain, the hotels are exceptional. The Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa is an idyllic escape for any traveller. With swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, a hairdresser, and five restaurants the hotel has much to offer. If you like to be close to the action, Downtown Rotana sits in the Manama financial district of Bahrain. Here you’ll find a pool, gym, room service, and club lounge serving food and drinks. If Bahrain sounds like the perfect destination to fly to using your British Airways Avios, you can get off-peak return Club/Business Class BA reward seats for as little as 100,000 Avios.
