  3. About Biddle Housing Opportunities Center Biddle Housing Opportunities Center is a new initiative aimed at ending chronic homelessnessin our region. It’s a partnership of St. Patrick Center, Peter and Paul Community Services, the City of St. Louis and other agencies of the Continuum of Care. Together, we provide housing options, support services and emergency shelter.

  5. About Biddle Housing Opportunities Center Biddle Housing Opportunities Center is a hand UP philosophy, not a hand OUT.

  6. About St. Patrick Center St. Patrick Center provides opportunities for self-sufficiency and dignity to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Individuals and families build permanent, positive change in their lives through safe and affordable housing, sound mental and physical health, and employment and financial stability.

About Peter and Paul Community Services Peter and Paul Community Services (PPCS) provides a continuum of housing and support services for individuals who are homeless, especially those who experience mental illness or live with HIV. Through its shelter, meals program and transitional and permanent supportive housing, PPCS connects over 1,500 individuals annually with shelter, food, mental health care, job skills training, and help for chemical addictions, to foster self-sufficiency.

  9. Hours of operation Biddle Housing Opportunities Center is open for day services Monday-Sunday from 7am to 7pm. Day services include discovery sessions, assessments and meals. Overnight shelter hours for men are Monday-Sunday 7pm to 6am.

  11. Meal times • Breakfast is served Monday-Sunday from 7:00-7:30am • Lunch is served Monday-Sunday from 12:00-12:30pm • Dinner is served Monday-Sunday from 6:00-6:30pm Please sign in for each meal. Please form a line.Condiments are located in the center island.

  12. About our meal services When you are finished eating, please put your tray in the window. This should include your dishes and any trash. You do not need to scrape or wash your dishes. No seconds until all guests have been served. If available, seconds will be served at the half hour. Coffee is served Monday-Sunday for breakfast until it is gone.

What to expect If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, your visit to Biddle Housing Opportunities Center offers you an opportunity to work with a professional staff to assist you with your situation. If you are seeking emergency shelter, our first goal is to explore other options. It may be possible for you to return home with a small amount of help from us. We’ll discuss this in your discovery session.

  15. What to expect When you arrive at Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, you’ll meet with a case worker. We’ll conduct a brief discovery session and a more in-depth assessment. This assessment will help us determine how we can best assist you with remaining in or entering a stable living environment.

  16. What to expect A discovery session is a simple interview to compile your basic personal information. Generally, it takes 15-20 minutes to complete, depending on your needs.

  17. What to expect After you complete your initial session, we’ll work with you to either help you maintain your housing or place you in a shelter while we work with you on your housing plan. If a shelter bed is not available at Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, we’ll present you with another option.

  18. What to expect If we determine that you need further assistance, we’ll introduce you to a staff member for orientation. At orientation, you’ll learn about rules and expectations during you stay with us.

  19. What to expect Your housing plan will be a team effort. You, your specialist and case managers will work together to remove any housing barriers that you may have. It is our goal that your shelter stay be temporary. We’ll work together to help you secure safe, affordable housing.

  20. What to expect Biddle Housing Opportunities Center is a community effort that requires resources from St. Louis area individuals, businesses and more in order to operate. Please help us be a good neighbor by not loitering in neighborhoods, littering or panhandling.

  22. Are you actively engaged? Biddle Housing Opportunities Center services are reserved for clients with a blue card or route sheet who are actively engaged or actively receiving our help. You are allowed to spend time at Biddle if you are waiting to see an intake specialist or actively receiving services.

  23. What’s a blue card? A blue card helps us identify who is waiting to meet with an intake specialist. Blue cards are numbered and connected with your name. If you are asked to show your blue card at any time, please do so.

  24. What’s a route sheet? A route sheet helps us track of who is actively receiving services from Biddle, as well as what services you are receiving, including dates and times.

  25. Why are we doing this? The goal of Biddle Housing Opportunities Center is to end chronic homelessness for individuals and families in our community. If you are spending time at Biddle, you’re working with a team on your housing plan. There are no exceptions. We want you to move into safe, affordable housing as soon as possible.

Shower use For clients who are actively receiving services from Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, showers are available, on a first-come, first-served basis, Monday-Sunday from 8:00am-5:30pm. There may be some exceptions for overnight guests. Clients will be provided with a bath towel and face towel as available. Please place dirty towels in the bin outside the shower area.

  28. Computer use For clients who are actively working on their housing plan, computers in the resource area may be used for appropriate internet/web searches. Please check with a Biddle staff member about computer availability.

  30. Janitorial services St. Patrick Center’s BEST crew will provide janitorial services at Biddle Housing Opportunities Center. When BEST crew members are cleaning the bathrooms and showers, they will be closed to Biddle clients.

  31. Laundry services For clients who are actively receiving services from Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, laundry services are available Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:30am-2:30pm. For overnight guests, laundry services are available once a week and will be assigned by bed number.

  32. Locker services For clients who are actively receiving services from Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, daytime lockers are available Monday-Sunday from 8:00am-5:30pm. For overnight guests, lockers are available in the sleeping area and will be assigned by bed number.

  34. Appropriate behavior All guests of Biddle Housing Opportunities Center must behave appropriately, conducting themselves in a respectful manner toward staff, volunteers and guests, and abiding by our rules and regulations. Failure to do so may result in being asked to leave the premises.

  35. Appropriate behavior Drugs and alcohol are not permitted on Biddle property. Failure to comply may result in contact with the police.

  36. Appropriate behavior Smoking is allowed in the designated smoking area of Biddle’s outside courtyard. Smoking is prohibited inside the building and all areas outside the building other than the designated area.

  38. Biddle events From time to time, Biddle Housing Opportunities Center will host events. These will include other agencies coming to Biddle to provide services, such as Affinia Healthcare, and organized activities such as art therapy.

  39. Biddle events Health screenings! For clients who are actively receiving services from Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, Affinia Healthcare offers health screenings on Tuesdays from 9am to 11:30am. There is no cost if you have proof of your homelessness, such as a shelter letter.

  40. Biddle events Legal help! For clients who are actively receiving services from Biddle Housing Opportunities Center, Catholic Legal Assistance Ministry offers assistance with legal problems on (days of the week) at (times).

  41. Biddle events Art class! Mary Ann Boehme offers art classes for Biddle overnight guests on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm-9pm.
