Introduction • Expansion of Highway 7 from Hwy 417 (City of Ottawa) to Town of Carleton Place • 2-lane rural highway to 4-lane rural freeway • Overall expansion to be phased-in under 3 contracts • Construction of Phase I (WP 256-99-00) starting at 417…. started in August 2006 • Construction of Phase III (WP 252-99-00) scheduled to start in 2010

  3. Scope of Work – WP 252-99-00 • Expansion of 2-lane facility to 4-lane rural freeway divided (RFD) • 4-lane freeway to 4-lane urban highway transition zone • New interchange at Co. Rd. 17 • New commuter parking lot • Full illumination for urban transition section, partial illumination at interchange ramp exits and terminals • Drainage, culvert replacements, storm water mgt • Roadside safety improvements • Landscape design

Transition Plan • Approved Highway 7 Transition Measures: • Speed reductions: 1008060 km/h • Two 6000m-radius horizontal curves • “Freeway Ends” signing • Peripheral transverse edge lines • Overhead “traffic lights ahead” sign with continuous flashing amber beacons • Transition from 30m median to 5m median with concrete barrier or curb & gutter • Full illumination: for transition from McNeely Ave. to wide median • Partial illumination: Co. Rd. 17 exit ramps & ramp terminals

  7. Staging Overview • Stage I • Construction of new WBL & EBL, west and east of County Road 17 respectively • Start of interchange construction • New temporary intersection for County Road 17 south detour – Hwy 7 to SSR

  9. Staging Overview • Stage II • County Road 17 closed between NSR & SSR, traffic detours in effect • Two-way Hwy 7 traffic diverted to WBLs from McNeely to temporary Co. Rd. 17 detour intersection • EBL under construction from 200m east of McNeely to median cross-over, just east of County Road 17 • Remaining sections of interchange, including bridge superstructure completed • Permanent singing installed, line painting completed
